FRONT DRUM BRAKES

Print

CAUTION
Brake shoes may contain asbestos, which has been determined to be a cancer causing agent. Never clean the brake surfaces with compressed air! Avoid inhaling any dust from any brake surface! When cleaning brake surfaces, use a commercially available brake cleaning fluid.

There are two types of front drum brakes used on Dodge and Plymouth vans, a servo type with single anchor, and a Bendix Duo-Servo type. The servo type was used exclusively from 1967 to 70, and the Bendix Duo-Servo was added sometime in 1970 and was used occasionally from then on. The Bendix Duo-Servo type can be identified by the brake shoes which are marked Pri (Primary) and Sec (Secondary) and "This Side Out", for easy identification.
