Upper Ball Joint

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



  1. Install a jack under the outer end of the lower control arm and raise the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the ball joint nuts. Using a ball joint breaker, loosen the upper ball joint.
  6.  
  7. Unscrew the ball joint from the control arm.
  8.  
  9. Screw a new ball joint into the control arm and tighten to 125 ft. lbs.
  10.  
  11. Install the new ball joint seal, using a 2 in. socket. Be sure that the seal is seated on the ball joint housing.
  12.  
  13. Insert the ball joint into the steering knuckle and install the ball joint nuts. Tighten the nuts to 135 ft. lbs. and install the cotter pins. On 1972-74 300 series, the torque is 175 ft. lbs.
  14.  
  15. Install the wheel and lower the truck to the ground.
