REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1967-77 Models

  1. Drain the cooling system.
  2.  


CAUTION
When draining the coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted by the ethylene glycol antifreeze, and are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old.

  1. From under the van, disconnect the hoses at the core tubes.
  2.  
  3. Remove the 4 screws that retain the heater assembly to the floor.
  4.  
  5. Remove the 4 screws that retain the cover to the heater and lift off the cover. The core will come with it.
  6.  
  7. Remove the four blower motor screws and lift out the motor.
  8.  
  9. Installation is the reverse of removal. Replace any damaged sealing material.
  10.  

1978 Models

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the blower wires.
  4.  
  5. Remove the blower-to-floor screws and lift out the blower.
  6.  
  7. Installation is the reverse of removal. Replace any damaged sealing material.
  8.  

1979-88 Models

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.

  3. Remove the nuts that mount the heater to the floor pan.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the blower wiring at the blower and remove the heater assembly from inside the van.
  6.  
  7. Remove the cover screws and lift off the cover. The core is attached to the cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove the attaching screws and lift out the blower motor.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal. Replace any sealing material.
