Fig. Fig. 1: Inexpensive scan tools, such as this Auto X-ray®, are available to interface with your Chrysler

  1. Install the tool to the wiring connector which is located on the left shock tower.
  2.
  3. Position the read/hold switch on the tool to the read position.
  4.
  5. Open the carburetor switch by placing the fast idle screw on the highest step of the fast idle cam.
  6.
  7. Position the ignition switch in the run position and wait for fault code 00 to appear on the tool display screen.
  8.
  9. Move the read/switch to the hold position.
  10.
  11. Record all fault codes that may appear. The display fault codes may be stopped by switching the tool to the read position. Fault codes will continue when the tool is switched back to the hold position.
  12.

Fault codes indicate the result of a failure, but do not always identify the failed component.

Code 00 indicates that the diagnostic readout tool is functioning and receiving power.

Code 11 indicates that a problem exists in the oxygen solenoid control circuit.

Code 13 indicates that a problem exists in the canister purge solenoid circuit.

Code 16 indicates that there is a problem in the radiator fan control circuit. If vehicle is equipped with air condition disregard this fault code.

Code 17 indicates that a problem exists in the electronic throttle control vacuum solenoid system.

Code 18 indicates a problem in the vacuum operated secondary control solenoid system.

Code 21 indicates a problem in the distributor pick up system.

Code 22 indicates that the oxygen system is stuck in either the full rich position or full lean position.

Code 24 indicates a problem in the computer.

Code 25 indicates a problem in the radiator fan coolant sensor portion of the engine temperature dual sensor system.

Code 26 indicates a problem in the engine temperature portion of the engine temperature dual sensor system.

Code 28 indicates a problem in the distance sensor system on vehicles equipped with manual transmission.

Code 31 indicates that the engine has not been cranked since the battery was disconnected.

Code 32 indicates a problem in the computer.

Code 33 indicates a problem in the computer.

Code 55 indicates the end of a message.

Code 88 indicates the end of a message.

FUEL INJECTION

  1. Connect Diagnostic Readout Box tool C-4805 or equivalent, to the diagnostic connector located in the engine compartment near the passenger side strut tower.
  2.
  3. Start the engine if possible, cycle the transmission selector and the A/C switch if applicable. Shut off the engine. Turn the ignition switch On, Off, On, Off within five seconds.
  4.
  5. Record all the diagnostic codes shown on the Diagnostic Readout Box Tool C-4805 or equivalent, observe the power loss lamp on the instrument panel; the lamp should light for three seconds then go out (bulb check).
  6.

When a fault code appears, either by flashes of the power loss/limited lamp or by watching the diagnostic readout-tool C-4805, it indicates that the Logic Module has recognized an abnormal signal in the system. Fault codes indicate the results of a failure but never identify the failed component directly. The following is a list of fault codes.

Code 88 -Start of the test.

Code 11 -Engine not cranked since the battery was disconnected.

Code 12 -Memory Standby power lost.

Code 13 -MAP sensor pneumatic circuit (Power loss/limited lamp on).

Code 14 -MAP sensor electrical circuit (Power loss/limited lamp on).

Code 15 -Vehicle speed/distance sensor.

Code 16 -Loss of battery voltage sense (Power loss/limited lamp on).

Code 17 -Engine running too cool (trouble in the cooling system).

Code 21 -Oxygen sensor circuit.

Code 22 -Coolant temperature sensor circuit (Power loss/limited lamp on).

Code 23 -Throttle body temperature sensor circuit.

Code 24 -Throttle position sensor.

Code 25 -AIS motor driven circuit.

Code 26 -Peak injection current has not been reached.

Code 27 -Internal problem in logic module fuel circuit.

Code 31 -Purge solenoid circuit.

Code 33 -A/C cutout relay circuit.

Code 35 -Fan control relay circuit.

Code 37 -Shift indicator light circuit.

Code 41 -Charging system excess or no field circuit.

Code 42 -Auto shutdown relay driver.

Code 43 -Spark interface circuit.

Code 44 -Battery temperature is out of range.

Code 46 -Battery voltage is too high (Power loss/limited lamp on).

Code 47 -Battery voltage is too low.

Code 51 -Oxygen feedback system stuck in the lean position.

Code 52 -Oxygen feedback system stuck in the rich position.

Code 53 -Internal logic module problem.

Code 55 -End of message.
