Brake Light Switch

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



The brake light switch is located on the brake pedal bracket, under the driver's side of the dashboard.

  1. Remove the steering column trim cover for access to the brake pedal.
  2.  
  3. Press and hold the brake pedal in the applied position.
  4.  
  5. Rotate the switch counterclockwise to unlock. Then, pull the switch straight out of its mounting bracket and release the brake pedal.
  6.  
  7. Once the switch is removed, disconnect the electrical harness.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Connect the electrical harness to the switch.
  2.  
  3. Press and hold the brake pedal in the applied position.
  4.  
  5. Position the switch and rotate it clockwise to lock.
  6.  
  7. Install the steering column trim cover.
  8.  

ADJUSTMENT



With Locknut

See Figure 1

  1. Loosen the switch-to-pedal bracket screw and slide the switch away from the pedal arm.
  2.  
  3. Push the pedal down by hand and allow it to return on its own to the free-hanging position. Do not pull it back!
  4.  
  5. Slide the switch towards the pedal until there is a gap of 0.140 in. (3.5mm) between the plunger and pedal arm.
  6.  

The pedal must not move when measuring the gap.

  1. Tighten the switch screw to 82 inch lbs. (9 Nm). Recheck the gap.
  2.  

Without Locknut
  1. Push the switch through the clip in the mounting bracket until it is seated against the bracket. The pedal will move forward slightly.
  2.  

Do not use more than 10 lbs. (44 N) of force when pulling the brake pedal rearward. Excessive force may damage components.

  1. Gently pull back on the pedal as far as it will go. The switch will ratchet backwards to the correct position.
