REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Front Cable
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle securely on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the cable spring.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the adjusting nut at the equalizer to create slack in the cable.
  6.  
  7. Remove the clips retaining the cable to the under side of the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Remove the cable grommet on the floorboard inside the driver's compartment.
  12.  
  13. Compress and remove the cable retainer from the pedal bracket.
  14.  
  15. Loosen the cable retaining clamp screw and push the ball end of the cable out of the pedal assembly and slide the cable out.
  16.  
  17. Remove the front cable assembly from the vehicle through the engine compartment.
  18.  

To install:
  1. Route the cable through the engine compartment and place the cable in position.
  2.  
  3. Insert the cable retainer into the hole in the pedal assembly and seat securely.
  4.  
  5. Engage the cable ball end in the cleaves on the pedal assembly.
  6.  
  7. Install the cable grommet.
  8.  
  9. Raise and safely support the vehicle securely on jackstands.
  10.  
  11. Route the cable under the vehicle, installing the retaining clips.
  12.  
  13. Connect the cable to the equalizer and tighten nut to take up slack in the cable.
  14.  
  15. Connect the cable spring.
  16.  

Rear Cable

  1. Release the parking brake.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle securely on jackstands.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the rear cable adjuster nut and disconnect the rear cable from the equalizer.
  6.  
  7. Remove the clips that secure the rear cable to the under side of the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Remove the rear wheel and brake drum and brake shoes.
  10.  
  11. Using a small (mini) hose clamp, compress the fingers on the cable retainer.
  12.  
  13. Pull the cable through the support plate just enough to clear the retaining fingers.
  14.  
  15. Remove the hose clamp and pull the cable through the support plate.
  16.  

To install:
  1. Install the cable in the support plate and snap the attaching fingers into place.
  2.  
  3. Connect the cable to the parking brake lever.
  4.  
  5. Install the brake shoes and brake drum.
  6.  
  7. Connect the cable to the equalizer.
  8.  
  9. Mount the cable in the retaining clips under the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Adjust the parking brake.
  12.  
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14.  

ADJUSTMENT

Ensure that the service brakes are properly adjusted prior to adjusting the parking brakes.

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle securely on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Release the parking brake lever and loosen the cable adjusting nut to be sure that the cable is slack.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the cable adjusting nut until a slight drag is felt while rotating the wheels.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the cable adjusting nut until the wheels can be rotated freely, then back off the cable adjusting nut two turns.
  8.  
  9. Apply the parking brake several times, then release it and check to be sure that the rear wheels rotate freely.
  10.
