See Figure 1
The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is found at several locations on the vehicle. The first is on top of the dashboard at the driver's side of the vehicle, viewable through the windshield. Other spots include the body code plate, located behind the battery, the equipment identification plate, located at the left front of the inner hood panel, and the vehicle safety certification label, usually located on the door pillar.
The seventeen-digit vehicle number is composed of an identification number and a six-digit vehicle serial number.
The two most important digits are the eighth and tenth. The eighth digit identifies the engine type. This will be used later in this guide to identify the engines in the SPECIFICATION CHARTS. The tenth digit identifies the model year.
