REMOVAL & INSTALLATION




CAUTION
Observe all applicable safety precautions when working around fuel. Whenever servicing the fuel system, always work in a well ventilated area. Do not allow fuel spray or vapors to come in contact with a spark or open flame. Keep a dry chemical fire extinguisher near the work area. Always keep fuel in a container specifically designed for fuel storage; also, always properly seal fuel containers to avoid the possibility of fire or explosion.

  1. Remove the engine cover.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  4.  
  5. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect and label the vacuum hoses and electrical connectors.
  10.  
  11. Remove the throttle cable and, if so equipped, speed control and kickdown cables.
  12.  
  13. Remove the return spring.
  14.  
  15. Remove the fuel intake and return hoses.
  16.  
  17. Remove the throttle body mounting screws and lift the throttle body from the engine.
  18.  

To install:
  1. When installing the throttle body, use a new gasket. Install the throttle body and tighten the mounting screws to 175 inch lbs. (20.5 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the fuel intake and return hoses using new original equipment type clamps.
  4.  
  5. Install the return spring.
  6.  
  7. Install the throttle cable and, if so equipped, install the kickdown and speed control cables.
  8.  
  9. Install the wiring connectors and vacuum hoses.
  10.  
  11. Install the air cleaner assembly.
  12.  
  13. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  14.  
  15. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  16.  
  17. Install the engine cover.
