Throttle Body

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



See Figures 1 through 13

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the retaining bolts, then remove the throttle body cable cover.
  4.

  1. For vehicles with manual transaxles, perform the following to remove the throttle cables:
    1. Remove the throttle cable from the throttle body cam.
    2.  
    3. Compress the retaining tabs on the cable, then slide the cable out of the bracket.
    4.  
    5. If equipped with cruise control, remove the speed control cable from the throttle lever by sliding the clasp out of the hole used for the throttle cable.

  3. For vehicles with automatic transaxles, perform the following to remove the throttle cables:
    1. Remove the throttle cable from the throttle body cam.
    2.  
    3. Compress the retaining tabs on the cable and slide the cable out of the bracket.
    4.  
    5. Hold the throttle lever in the wide open position. Using finger-pressure only, remove the kickdown cable by PUSHING the connector off of the lever nail head. DO NOT attempt to pull the connector off perpendicular to the lever.

    7. Compress the retaining tabs on the cable and slide the cable out of the bracket.

    9. If equipped with cruise control, hold the throttle lever in the wide open position. Using finger pressure only, remove the speed control cable by PUSHING the connector off the lever nail head. DO NOT try to pull the connector off perpendicular to the lever.

    11. Compress the retaining tabs on the cable, then slide the cable out of the bracket.

  5. Remove the 2 screws holding the cable mounting bracket and support bracket.
  6.

  1. Remove the throttle body mounting bolts.

  1. Disconnect the EVAP purge hose.
  2.

  1. Partially lift the throttle body, detach the IAC valve and TPS electrical connectors, then remove the throttle body from the vehicle.

  1. The rubber O-ring is reusable, so wipe it clean and inspect it. If it's in good condition, you can reinstall it. If not, replace it with a new one.

To install:
  1. Attach the electrical connection(s) to the throttle body.
  2.  
  3. Position the throttle body on the intake manifold. Install the mounting bolts and tighten to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Attach the cable mounting bracket and support bracket and secure with the 2 mounting screws.
  6.  
  7. Connect the EVAP purge hose.
  8.  
  9. Install the cable housing(s) retainer tabs into the bracket.
  10.  
  11. Install the throttle cables, using the following procedures:
    1. From the engine compartment, rotate the throttle lever forward to the wide open position and install the throttle cable clasp.
    2.  
    3. If equipped with cruise control, rotate the throttle lever forward to the wide open throttle position and slide the speed control cable connector onto the nail head.
    4.  
    5. Rotate the throttle lever forward to the wide open position and slide the kickdown cable connector onto the nail head.
    6.

  13. Install the throttle cable cover and tighten the retaining bolt(s) to 50 inch lbs. (5.6 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
