  2.

WARNING
Do NOT overtighten the switch.

  1. After installation, make sure the back-up lamps are working properly.
  2.

Automatic Transaxle

On vehicles equipped with automatic transaxles, the park/neutral and back-up light switch are combined into a single switch.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Place a suitable drain pan under the transaxle.
  4.
  5. Unscrew the switch from the transaxle case, letting the fluid drain into the pan.
  6.
  7. Move the gear selector lever to PARK, then to the NEUTRAL position, and check to see if the switch operating lever fingers are centered in the switch opening.
  8.

To install:
  1. Screw the switch, with a new seal, into the transaxle case and tighten to 24 ft. lbs. (33 Nm). Test the switch with the test lamp.
  2.
  3. Add fluid to the transaxle to bring it up to the proper level.
  4.
  5. The back-up lamp switch circuit is through the 2 outside terminals of the three terminal switch.
  6.
  7. To test the switch, remove the wiring connector from the switch and test for continuity between the 2 outside pines.
  8.
  9. Continuity should exist only with the transaxle in the REVERSE position.
