Window Regulator

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Power and manual window regulators are removed and installed using the same procedure.

2-Door Vehicles

See Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the door trim panel and water shield.
  4.  
  5. If equipped with power windows, detach the wire connector from the power window motor.
  6.  
  7. Unfasten the nuts securing the regulator lift channel to the door glass.
  8.

  1. Secure the window in the upright position.
  2.  
  3. Matchmark the position of the rear bolt of the roller channel to the inner door panel for installation purposes.
  4.  
  5. Remove the bolt securing the rear of the roller channel to the door panel.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the bolt holding the front of the roller channel to the door panel.
  8.  
  9. Separate the roller channel from the door panel.
  10.

  1. Loosen the bolts holding the window regulator to the inner door panel.
  2.  
  3. Separate the bolt heads from the key hole slots in the inner door panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the window regulator through the large hole in the inner door panel.
  6.

  1. If equipped, remove the power window motor from the regulator.

To install:
  1. If equipped, install the power window motor on the regulator.
  2.  
  3. Move the regulator into position in the door and engage the bolt heads into the key hole slots in the inner door panel and tighten the bolts.
  4.  
  5. Install the roller channel to the door panel.
  6.  
  7. Install the bolt at the rear of the roller channel, making sure to align it to the mark on the inner door panel made during removal.
  8.  
  9. Tighten the front and rear roller channel bolts.
  10.  
  11. Install the nuts holding the regulator lift channel to the door glass.
  12.  
  13. Adjust the window as outlined earlier in this section.
  14.  
  15. If equipped, attach the electrical connector to the power window motor.
  16.  
  17. If equipped, install the door speaker.
  18.  
  19. Install the water shield and door trim panel.
  20.  
  21. Connect the negative battery cable.
  22.  

4-Door Vehicles

See Figures 5 and 6

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the door trim panel and water shield.
  4.  
  5. Remove the window glass.
  6.  
  7. If equipped with power windows, detach the wire connector from the power window motor.
  8.  
  9. Remove the nuts securing the top of the regulator to the inner door panel.
  10.  
  11. Remove the nuts holding the bottom of the regulator to the door panel.
  12.

  1. Loosen the bolts holding the regulator crank/motor to the door panel.
  2.  
  3. Disengage the bolts from the key hold slots in the door panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the window regulator from the access hole in the door panel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the power window motor from the regulator, if equipped.
  8.  

To install:
  1. If equipped, install the power window motor onto the regulator.
  2.  
  3. Move the window regulator into position in the door and engage the bolt heads in the key slots in the inner door panel.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the bolts attaching the regulator crank/motor to the door panel.
  6.  
  7. Install the nuts holding the top and bottom of the window regulator to the door panel.
  8.  
  9. If equipped, attach the electrical connector to the power window motor.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  
  13. Install the door glass. Check and adjust the glass alignment, as necessary.
  14.
