Chrysler RAM50/D50/Arrow 1979-1993 Repair Guide

Outside Mirrors

See Figure 1

The mirrors on these models can be removed from the door without disassembling the door liner or other components. Both left and right outside mirrors may be either manual, manual remote (small lever on the inside to adjust the mirror) or electric remote. If the mirror glass is damaged, replacements may be available through your dealer or a reputable glass shop in your area. If the plastic housing is damaged or cracked, the entire unit will need to be replaced.

  1. If the mirror is manual remote, check to see if the adjusting handle is retained by a hidden screw. If so, remove the screw and remove the handle.
  3. Remove the delta cover; that's the triangular black inner cover. It can be removed with a blunt plastic or wooden tool. Don't use a metal prytool; the plastic will be marred. Some models' delta covers are held in place with a retaining screws.
  5. Depending on the style of mirror, there may be concealment plugs or other minor parts under the delta cover-remove them. If the electric connectors are present, unplug them.
  7. Support the mirror housing from the outside and remove the three bolts or nuts holding the mirror to the door.
  9. If the wiring to the electric mirror was not disconnected previously, detach it now. Some connectors can only be reached after the mirror is free of the door. Remove the mirror assembly.

To install:
  1. Fit the mirror to the door and install the nuts and bolts to hold it. Connect the wiring harnesses if they are on the outside of the door. Pay particular attention to the placement and alignment of any gaskets or weatherstrips around the mirror; serious wind noises may result from careless work.
  3. If the wiring connectors are on the inside of the door, plug them back together and install any concealment plugs, dust boots or seals which were removed.
  5. Install the delta cover and install the control lever, if it was removed.
