Removal & Installation




WARNING
When removing ABM from Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU), be sure to completely separate the two components (approximately 1.5 in. (38 mm) before removing ABM. Otherwise, damage to the pressure sensor or Pump Motor connection may result requiring HCU replacement. Do not to touch the sensor terminals on the HCU side or the contact pads on the ABM side as this may result in contamination and issues in the future.

  1. Remove the negative battery cable from the battery.
  2.  
  3. Install a brake pedal prop rod.
  4.  
  5. Siphon the master cylinder.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the HCU electrical connector.
  8.  
  9. Remove the primary brake line at the master cylinder.
  10.  
  11. Remove the primary brake line from the HCU.
  12.  
  13. Remove the secondary brake line at the master cylinder.
  14.  
  15. Remove the secondary brake line at the HCU.
  16.  
  17. Remove the 4 chassis lines at the HCU.

  19. Remove the 1 mounting nut and 1 bolt holding the HCU bracket attachment to the vehicle.
  20.  
  21. Remove the HCU with the bracket from the vehicle.
  22.  
  23. Remove the 3 ABM bolts securing the ABM to the HCU.
  24.  
  25. Separate the ABM from the HCU.
  26.  

To install:

NOTE
If the ABM is being replaced, the new ABM must be reprogrammed with the use of a scan tool.

  1. Install new seals between the ABM and HCU.
  2.  
  3. Install the ABM to the HCU.
  4.  
  5. Install the 3 ABM mounting bolts to the HCU if removed tighten mounting bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the HCU with bracket to the vehicle and tighten the 2 mounting nuts.
  8.  
  9. Reconnect the HCU electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Install the 4 chassis lines at the HCU.
  12.  
  13. Install the secondary brake line at the HCU.
  14.  
  15. Install the secondary brake line at the master cylinder.
  16.  
  17. Install the primary brake line at the HCU.
  18.  
  19. Install the primary brake line at the master cylinder.

  21. Install negative battery cable to the battery.
  22.  
  23. Remove the brake pedal prop rod.
  24.  
  25. Bleed base and ABS brake systems.
  26.  
  27. Initialize the ABS module using the scan tool.
