  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.
  13. Start the engine and check fan operation.
  14.

5.7L Engines

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.
  5. Drain the cooling system.
  6.
  7. Disconnect the two high pressure lines at hydraulic fan drive. Remove and discard the O-rings from line fittings.
  8.
  9. Disconnect the low pressure return hose at hydraulic fan drive.
  10.
  11. Remove the lower shroud mounting bolts.
  12.
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14.
  15. Disconnect the fan control solenoid electrical connector.

  18.
  19. Disconnect the power steering gear output hose and return hose at the cooler.
  20.
  21. Remove the upper mounting bolts from the shroud.
  22.
  23. Remove the fan assembly from the vehicle.
  24.

To install:

  1. Position the fan assembly in the vehicle.
  2.
  3. Install the fan shroud upper mounting bolts. Do not tighten at this time.
  4.
  5. Install the radiator upper hose onto radiator.

  8.
  9. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  10.
  11. Install fan shroud lower mounting bolts and tighten to 50 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
    NOTE
When ever the high pressure line fittings are removed from the hydraulic fan drive, the O-rings located on the fittings must be replaced.

  12.
  13. Lubricate the o-rings on the fittings with power steering fluid then connect the inlet and outlet high pressure lines to fan drive. Tighten the inlet line to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm) and tighten the outlet line to 21 ft. lbs. (29 Nm).
  14.
  15. Connect the low pressure return hose to fan drive.
  16.
  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18.
  19. Install the radiator upper hose.
  20.
  21. Connect the electrical connector for hydraulic fan control solenoid.
  22.
  23. Tighten the fan shroud upper mounting bolts to 50 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
  24.
  25. Refill the cooling system to the correct level.
    WARNING
Do not run the engine with power steering fluid below the full mark in the reservoir. Severe damage to the hydraulic cooling fan or the engine can occur.

  26.
  27. Refill the power steering fluid reservoir and bleed air from steering system.
