Removal & Installation



  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the brake caliper.
  6.  
  7. Remove the caliper mounting adapter.
  8.  
  9. Remove the brake rotor.
  10.  
  11. Remove the wheel speed sensor.
  12.  
  13. If equipped with 4WD, remove the axleshaft nut.
  14.  
  15. Remove the wheel hub.
  16.  
  17. Remove the outer tie road retaining nut.
  18.  
  19. Separate the outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle using Special Tool 8677.
  20.  
  21. Remove the lower ball joint nut.
  22.  
  23. Separate the lower ball joint from the knuckle using Special Tool C-4150A.
  24.  
  25. Remove the upper ball joint nut.
  26.  
  27. Separate the upper ball joint from the knuckle using Special Tool 8677.
  28.  
  29. Remove the steering knuckle from the vehicle.
  30.  

To install:

  1. Position the steering knuckle into place on the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the lower ball joint into the knuckle and tighten the nut to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).
  4.  
  5. install the upper ball joint into the knuckle and tighten the nut to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).

  7. Install the outer tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
  8.  
  9. Install the wheel hub and tighten to 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm).
  10.  
  11. If equipped with 4WD, install the axleshaft nut and tighten to 96 ft. lbs. (135 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the following front brake components:

    Wheel speed sensor
     
    Brake rotor
     
    Caliper mounting adapter
     
    Caliper
     

  14.  
  15. Install the front wheel.
  16.  
  17. Lower the vehicle and perform a wheel alignment as necessary.
  18.
