Removal & Installation



  1. Remove the air intake assembly.
  2.  

  1. If removing the right side strut assembly:
    1. Disconnect the cruise control servo electrical connector.
    2.  
    3. Remove the coolant reservoir mounting bolt and move the coolant reservoir off to the side.
    4.

  3. If removing the left side strut assembly.
    1. Remove the power distribution center (PDC) bracket nuts.
    2.  
    3. Move the PDC over to the side in order to access the upper strut mounting nuts.
    4.

  5. Remove the four upper strut mounting nuts.
  6.  
  7. Raise and support the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Remove the front wheel.
  10.  
  11. Remove the two brake caliper adapter bolts.
  12.  
  13. Support the brake caliper adaptor and caliper.
    WARNING
    Do not allow the caliper to hang by the brake hose.

  15. Remove the disc brake rotor.
  16.  
  17. Remove the upper ball joint nut.
  18.  
  19. Separate the upper ball joint from the knuckle using Special Tool 8677 or equivalent ball joint separator.
  20.  
  21. Remove the lower clevis bolt at the lower control arm.
  22.  
  23. Remove the lower stabilizer bolt at the lower control arm.
  24.  
  25. Remove the strut assembly from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Install the clevis bracket to the strut assembly and tighten to 90 ft. lbs. (122 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the strut assembly to the vehicle and tighten the upper mounting nuts to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).

  5. If installing the right side strut assembly:
    1. Install the coolant reservoir bolt.
    2.  
    3. Reconnect the cruise control servo wiring connector.
    4.  

  6.  
  7. If installing the left side strut assembly:
    1. Position the PDC into place and tighten the bracket nuts.
    2.  

  8.  
  9. Install the four upper strut mounting nuts.
  10.  
  11. Install the air intake assembly.
  12.  
  13. Raise and support the vehicle.
  14.  
  15. Install the lower stabilizer bolt at the lower control arm and tighten to 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm)..
  16.  
  17. Install the lower clevis bolt at the lower control arm and tighten to 125 ft. lbs. (169 Nm).
  18.  
  19. Install the upper ball joint into the knuckle and tighten the nut to 55 ft. lbs. (75 Nm).
  20.  
  21. Install the disc brake rotor.
  22.  
  23. Install the caliper adaptor mounting bolts to 130 ft. lbs. (176 Nm).
  24.  
  25. Install the front wheel.
  26.  
  27. Lower the vehicle.
