Adjustment



There is no adjustment for the front wheel bearings due to the nature of their design. These bearings are permanently lubricated and require no periodic maintenance.

Removal & Installation




NOTE
Disable the air suspension before raising the vehicle. The switch is located in the luggage compartment.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Turn the air suspension switch to the OFF position.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheel
     
    Hub retainer nut
     
    Brake caliper and rotor
     
    Outer tie rod end
     
    Stabilizer bar link
     
    Wheel speed sensor
     
    Lower ball joint
     
    Steering knuckle
     

  6.  
  7. Unbolt and remove the hub and bearing assembly.
  8.  

To install:


NOTE
Use new nuts, bolts and split pins.


NOTE
The knuckle must be clean enough to allow the wheel hub to be completely seated by hand. Do not press or draw the wheel hub into place.

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Hub and bearing assembly. Tighten the bolts to 61-78 ft. lbs. (83-107 Nm).
     
    Steering knuckle. Tighten the pinch bolt to 72-97 ft. lbs. (98-132 Nm).
     
    Lower ball joint. Tighten the nut to 50-67 ft. lbs. (68-92 Nm).
     
    Wheel speed sensor
     
    Stabilizer bar link. Tighten the nut to 57-75 ft. lbs. (77-103 Nm).
     
    Outer tie rod end. Tighten the nut to 35-46 ft. lbs. (47-63 Nm).
     
    Brake caliper and rotor. Tighten the caliper anchor bracket bolts to 65-87 ft. lbs. (88-118 Nm).
     
    Hub retainer nut. Tighten the nut to 170-202 ft. lbs. (230-275 Nm).
     
    Front wheel

  3. Turn the air suspension switch to the ON position.
  4.  

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  2.  
  3. Remove and discard the grease cap from the hub.
  4.  
  5. Remove the brake caliper. Suspend the caliper with a length of wire; do not let it hang from the brake hose.
  6.  
  7. Remove the rotor. If the factory installed push on nuts are installed, remove them first.
  8.  
  9. Remove and discard the wheel hub nut.
  10.  
  11. Remove the hub and bearing assembly.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the hub and bearing assembly. Install a new wheel hub nut and tighten to 189-254 ft. lbs. (255-345 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the rotor and push on nuts, if equipped. Install a new grease cap.
  4.  
  5. Install the brake caliper.
  6.  
  7. Install the wheel and tire assembly and lower the vehicle.
