Brake Pads

Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, please familiarize yourself with safety procedures.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

1 / 2 of the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir
    Wheel and tire assembly
Outer disc brake pad spring clip (anti-rattle clip)
2 locating pin covers and remove the locating pins
Hose from its mounting on the strut
Caliper off of the brake rotor and tie it off to prevent damage to the brake hose
Outboard disc brake pad from the anchor plate
Inboard disc brake pad from the brake caliper

To install:

  1. If installing new disc brake pads, use a C-clamp or similar tool to push the caliper piston into the caliper bore. This will allow room for the new pads.
  3. Install or connect the following:

Inboard disc brake pad into the caliper
Outboard disc brake pad into position in the anchor plate
Disc brake caliper onto the rotor
2 locating pins and torque to 20 ft. lbs. (28 Nm)
    Caliper locating pin covers
Brake hose to its support on the strut
    Disc brake pad spring clip
Wheel and tire assembly. Torque the lug nuts to 62 ft. lbs. (85 Nm).

  5. Pump the brake pedal several times to achieve a good pedal before attempting to move the vehicle.
  7. Check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder fluid reservoir and add fluid as necessary.
  9. Road test the vehicle and check for proper brake system operation.
