Throttle Position Sensor

Operation

Specific to:

Toyota Corolla 2006-2008

The TP sensor detects the throttle valve opening angle. When the throttle valve is fully closed, the sensor transmits a signal voltage of approximately 0.3 to 1.0 V to terminal VTA of the ECM. This signal voltage increases in proportion to the opening angle of the throttle valve, reaching approximately 3.2 to 4.9V when the throttle valve is fully open. The ECM determines the vehicle driving conditions from these signals and uses this information in functions such as air-fuel ratio correction, power increase correction and fuel-cut control.

Removal & Installation

Specific to:

Toyota Corolla 2006-2008

  1. Disconnect TP sensor connector from sensor.
  2.
  3. Remove TP sensor attaching screws and remove TP sensor from the throttle body.
  4.

To install:

  1. Reverse removal procedure
  2.

Testing

Specific to:

Toyota Corolla 2006-2008

  1. Disconnect the Throttle Position (TP) sensor connector.
  2.
  3. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the TP sensor.
  4.
  5. If sensor is not within standard specifications, replace sensor.
