Adjustment



No periodic wheel bearing adjustment is necessary. The wheel bearings are a sealed unit that must be replaced if loose or noisy.

Removal & Installation




NOTE
The Front and Rear Wheel Hub/Wheel Speed Sensors are not interchangeable. When you are replacing a Wheel Hub/Wheel Speed Sensor be sure to use the correct Wheel Hub/Wheel Speed Sensor part number. Do not mount the Rear Wheel Hub/Wheel Speed Sensor in the front steering knuckle. The Rear Wheel Hub/Wheel Speed Sensor features a splined hole through the center of the bearing which mates to the drive axle. The Rear Wheel Hub/Wheel Speed Sensor requires the support of the drive axle and the drive axle nut clamped joint to properly carry the vehicle loads. Mounting the Rear Wheel Hub/Wheel Speed Sensor in the front steering knuckle can cause bearing failure and possible damage to the vehicle.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Front wheel
     
    Wheel Speed Sensor (WSS) electrical connector
     
    Brake caliper
     
    Brake rotor
     
    Stabilizer shaft link from the lower control arm and support the lower control arm
     
    Support the lower control arm using a jackstand.
     
    Separate the outer tie rod ball stud from the steering knuckle using Ball Joint Separator J-42188 or equivalent
     
    Lower ball joint stud from the steering knuckle using Ball Joint Separator J-42188 or equivalent
     
    Wheel hub mounting bolts
     
    Wheel hub/bearing assembly from the knuckle

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Hub/bearing assembly to the steering knuckle. Make certain that the speed sensor cable connection is facing rearward and torque the mounting bolts to 96 ft. lbs. (130 Nm)
     
    Lower control arm ball stud to the steering knuckle and torque the nut to 20 ft. lbs. (30 Nm) plus 180 degrees
     
    Remove the jackstand.
     
    Outer tie rod to the steering knuckle and torque the nut to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm) plus an additional 160 degree turn
     
    WSS electrical connector
     
    Stabilizer shaft link to the lower control arm and torque the nut to 53 ft. lbs. (72 Nm)
     
    Brake rotor
     
    Brake caliper and torque the bracket mounting bolts to 129 ft. lbs. (175 Nm)
     
    Front wheel
     
    Negative battery cable
