Shock Absorbers

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Wheel
     
    Electronic suspension control electrical connector from the shock, if equipped
     
    Lower mounting bolt
     
    Upper mounting bolts
     
    Shock absorber from the lower control arm and shock tower
     
    Upper insulator and retainer from the shock absorber

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Upper insulator and retainer to the shock absorber, if removed
     
    Shock absorber to the shock tower and lower control arm
     
    Upper mounting bolts and torque them to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm)
     
    Lower shock absorber mounting bolt and torque it to 107ft. lbs. (145 Nm)
     
    Electronic suspension control electrical connector from the shock, if equipped
     
    Wheel
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  

Testing & Inspection



  1. Road test and inspect for proper handling.
  2.  
  3. Use your hands in order to lift up and push down each corner of the vehicle 3 times.
    1. Remove your hands from the vehicle.
    2.  
    3. Does the vehicle stop bouncing after 2 cycles-
    4.  

  4.  
  5. Inspect the vehicle trim height.
  6.  
  7. Inspect each strut or shock absorber for external fluid leakage.
  8.  
  9. If vehicle fails to perform as specified in any of the above tests, replace the shock absorbers.
    NOTE
    A light film of oil on the top portion of the reservoir is normal.
