Camshaft Position Sensor

The Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor is located on the right front cylinder head

Description & Operation



The CMP sensor is a hall effect type sensor and is used to determine when number one cylinder is on the compression stroke.

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the air cleaner housing.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the sensor electrical connector.
  8.  
  9. Remove the sensor retaining bolt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the sensor from its mounting.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Inspect the sensor O-ring for damage, replace as required.
  4.  
  5. Lubricate the O-ring with clean engine oil prior to installation.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the retaining bolt to 71 inch lbs.
