Heated Oxygen Sensor

Operation



The oxygen sensor senses the oxygen concentration in the exhaust gas then converts it into a voltage and sends it on to the PCM. The PCM controls fuel injection based on the signal so that the air fuel ratio is maintained at the theoretical ration.

Removal & Installation



Downstream Sensors
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the sensor electrical connector.
  8.  
  9. Remove the sensor retaining bolt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the sensor from its mounting.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Apply anti-seize compound to the threaded portion of the sensor.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the retaining bolt to 37 ft. lbs.
  6.  

Upstream Sensors
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine cover.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the sensor electrical connector.
  8.  
  9. Remove the sensor retaining bolt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the sensor from its mounting.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Apply anti-seize compound to the threaded portion of the sensor.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the retaining bolt to 37 ft. lbs.
  6.
