Crankshaft Front Seal

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect battery negative cable from battery and properly isolate to prevent accidental reconnection.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Engine cooling fan and shroud
     
    Accessory drive belt
     
    Vibration damper
     

  6.  
  7. Protect the crankshaft with a rag and pry out the front crankshaft oil seal with a suitable tool.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Remove any burrs from the seal-s mounting surface.
    1. The circumference and the sealing lip of the front crankshaft oil seal and its mating surface MUST be free of oil and grease.
    2.

  3. Fit the front crankshaft oil seal onto the Special Tool 9103 or a suitable crankshaft seal driver.
    1. If using Special Tool 9103, align the slot in the tool with the crankshaft key and install the vibration damper bolt to press in the new seal until it bottoms.
    2.  
    3. Remove the seal driver and damper bolt.

  5. Install the vibration damper.
  6.  
  7. Install or connect the following:

    Accessory drive belt
     
    Engine cooling fan and shroud
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  8.  
  9. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  10.
