Parking Brake Shoes

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel and tire assembly
     
    Caliper assembly bolts
     
    Disc brake rotor
     

  6.  
  7. Release the parking brake equalizer tensioning bolt.

    Parking brake shoe return spring using a hooked pick
     
    Parking brake shoe hold down spring using a pair of needle-nose pliers
     
    Parking brake shoes by lifting them over rear axle shaft flange
     
    Upper parking brake shoe return spring
     
    Expanding lock
     

  8.  
  9. The parking brake shoe assembly consists of the following components:

    Adjuster
     
    Upper return spring
     
    Hold down spring
     
    Expanding lock
     
    Lower return spring

To install:


NOTE
Coat all bearing and sliding surfaces on the expanding lock with anti-seize compound.

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Parking brake adjuster
     
    Upper return spring
     
    Parking brake shoes by placing the assembly over rear axle shaft flange
     
    Hold down spring by using a pair of needle-nose pliers
     
    Return spring by using a hooked tool or needle-nose pliers
     

  2.  
  3. Securely tighten the bolt on the parking brake cable equalizer.
  4.  
  5. Continue installing:

    Disc brake rotors
     
    Caliper bolts
     
    Wheel and tire assembly
