Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Recover the A/C refrigerant, if equipped.
  6.  
  7. Drain the engine oil.
  8.  
  9. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  10.  
  11. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Air cleaner housing assembly
     
    Radiator hoses
     
    Radiator and fan assembly
     
    Accessory drive belt
     
    Vacuum hoses from brake booster, intake manifold and purge valve
     
    Power steering fluid from pump
     
    Ground lead at power steering pump
     
    Power steering pressure and return lines at pump
     
    Oxygen (O 2 ) sensors
     
    Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor
     
    Heater hose
     
    Fuel supply line
     
    Engine wiring harness and all electrical connectors
     
    Lower radiator hose and coolant bypass hose from water pump
     
    Upper radiator hose from thermostat housing

  13. Raise and support vehicle on jack stands.
  14.  
  15. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Engine undercover
     
    Front exhaust pipes
     
    Ground cable at transmission
     
    Driveshaft
     
    Starter
     

  16.  
  17. Place a transmission jack under the transmission.
  18.  
  19. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Transmission assembly
     
    A/C compressor and place aside with lines attached
     
    Front engine mount bolts
     

  20.  
  21. Lower the vehicle.
  22.  
  23. Attach a suitable engine lifting device to the engine lifting eyes.
  24.  
  25. Remove engine assembly from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Lower the engine into the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Front engine mount. Tighten the bolt to 41 ft. lbs. (55 Nm).
     
    Transmission
     
    A/C compressor. Tighten the bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
     
    Transmission ground cable. Tighten to 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm).
     
    Starter
     
    Driveshaft
     
    Front exhaust pipes
     
    Engine undercover
     
    Lower radiator hose and coolant bypass hose
     
    Heater hoses to the rear of the intake manifold
     
    Upper radiator hose
     
    Engine wiring harness
     
    Fuel supply line. Tighten fitting to 28 ft. lbs. (38 Nm).
     
    O 2 sensors, MAF sensor and heater hose
     
    Power steering lines. Tighten fittings to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
     
    Power steering pump ground. Tighten bolt to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
     
    Vacuum hoses
     
    Accessory drive belt
     
    Radiator and fan
     
    Air cleaner housing
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  4.  
  5. Fill the power steering pump to the correct level.
  6.  
  7. Fill the crankcase to the correct level.
  8.  
  9. Fill the cooling system.
  10.  
  11. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  12.
