Wheel Bearings

Adjustment



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. With the wheel removed, install a wheel bolt on the opposite side from the brake rotor retaining bolt
  4.  
  5. Press the brake pads back into the caliper so the rotor turns free.
  6.  
  7. Remove the bearing grease cap.
  8.  
  9. Loosen the wheel bearing adjusting nut until some end play is present.

  11. Attach a dial indicator to the hub.
  12.  
  13. Turn the hub nut in stages while pushing and pulling the rotor firmly back and forth. Adjust the end play to 0.0004-0.0008 inches (0.01-0.02mm).
  14.  
  15. Tighten the hub nut to 97 inch lbs. (11 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Remove dial indicator and install grease cap.
  18.  
  19. Remove the wheel bolt from rotor and install the wheel.
  20.  

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheel
     
    Brake caliper
     
    Brake rotor
     
    Grease cap
     
    Adjusting nut
     
    Bearing
     
    Wheel hub

  6.  

To install:

  1. Pack the wheel hub with grease and install the hub, bearing and seal ring onto the spindle.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Brake rotor
     
    Hub nut
     
    Adjust bearing end play
     
    Brake caliper
     
    Grease cap
     
    Front wheel
