Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect battery negative cable from battery and properly isolate to prevent accidental reconnection.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  8.  
  9. Drain a small amount of fluid from the master cylinder brake reservoir with a clean suction gun.
  10.  
  11. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Caliper mounting bolts and remove the caliper from the knuckle
     
    Brake hose from the caliper by rotating the caliper while holding the brake hose with a line wrench.
     
    Pad retaining pin by knocking out with a punch
     
    Anti-rattle clip
     
    Pads from caliper

    Fig. Using a suitable punch (1) knock out the retaining pin (4) that holds the pads in place. Remove the anti-rattle clip (3) and remove the rear brake pads from the rear caliper (2).

To install:


NOTE
If the caliper piston is not completely bottomed out into the caliper, you must do so in order to install the caliper onto the rotor.

  1. Use a C-clamp to bottom out caliper piston.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:
    NOTE
    Hold the anti-rattle clip down with your thumb while tapping the retaining clip into position.



    Brake pads into the caliper by sliding them through the hole in the top of the caliper
     
    Anti-rattle clip
     



    Retaining pin through the hole in the side of the caliper and tap the pin into the caliper until it is threaded through both brake pads and over the anti-rattle clip
     
    Wheel and tire assembly

  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Pump the brake pedal until the caliper pistons and the brake pads are seated and a firm brake pedal is achieved.
  8.  
  9. Top off the brake fluid reservoir with new fluid if necessary, and check for leaks.
