Power Door Locks



Diagnosis & Testing

Any diagnosis of the Power Door Locks should begin with the use of scan tool. For information on the use of the scan tool, refer to the appropriate Diagnostic Service information.

  1. Turn the ignition on.
  2.  
  3. With the scan tool, record and erase DTC's.
  4.  
  5. Turn the ignition off, wait 10 seconds then turn the ignition on.
  6.  
  7. Try to operate the door locks several times.
  8.  
  9. With the scan tool, read active DTC's.
  10.  
  11. Refer to the symptom list for problems related to the power door lock DTC's.
  12.  

Removal & Installation
Door Lock Motor

The power door lock actuator is part of the door latch assembly.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the trim panel from the inside of the front door as follows:
    1. Remove the screws securing the panel to the door.
      WARNING
      The trim panel is attached to the door using hooks molded into the panel. Do not pull the trim panel straight off or damage to the panel and/or power switch assembly may occur.

    3. Lift the trim panel up off the lock rod and attachment hooks and separate the panel from the door slightly.
    4.  
    5. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the inside handle actuator rod and remove the trim panel.
    8.

  5. Remove the water shield from the inside of the front door.
  6.  
  7. Remove the screws that secure the window regulator rear rail to the inside of the front door; position it aside.
  8.  
  9. Reach into the back of the door shell to unsnap the plastic clips that secures the interior door latch lock links to the latch lever and disengage the link from the latch.
  10.  
  11. Remove the three screws that secure the latch to the outer latch face of the front door.
    NOTE
    Wiring connector can be disconnected much easier after all links are disconnected from latch and latch is unscrewed from door.

  13. Reach into the back of the door shell and pull the latch forward far enough to access and disconnect the door wire harness connector from the front door latch connector receptacle.
  14.  
  15. Remove the latch from the interior of the door shell.
  16.  
  17. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the latch screws to 85 inch lbs. (10 Nm) and the regulator rail to 70 inch lbs. (8 Nm).

Door Lock Switch
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
  4.  
  5. Using a trim stick, start at the rear of the switch and pry up to remove from door trim panel.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect electrical harness connectors from switch.
  8.  
  9. Installation is the reverse of removal.
