Brake Pads

Removal & Installation



  1. Raise and support vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheel.
  4.  
  5. Drain small amount of fluid from master cylinder brake reservoir with suction gun.
  6.  
  7. Pry the piston side pad away from the rotor with a tool that won't scratch the rotor surface.
  8.  
  9. Remove the caliper mounting slide pin bolts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the caliper by tilting the top up and off the caliper adapter.
    WARNING
    Do not allow brake hose to support caliper assembly.

  13. Support and hang the caliper with a piece of wire or twine.
  14.  
  15. Remove the outboard brake pad from the caliper.
  16.  
  17. Remove the inboard brake pad from the caliper.
  18.  

To install:

  1. Install new anti-rattle clips.
    NOTE
    When servicing the rear brake pads, replace the anti-rattle clips on the brake adapter. Anti-rattle clips are provided with the shoe & lining kit.

  3. Install inboard brake pad in caliper.
  4.  
  5. Install outboard brake pad in caliper.
  6.  
  7. Lubricate rail clips for the disc brake pads.
  8.  
  9. Tilt the top of the caliper over rotor and secure to the mounting holes on the brake caliper adapter.
  10.  
  11. Install the caliper to the brake caliper adapter.
  12.  
  13. Coat the caliper mounting slide pin bolts with silicone grease. Then install and tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (19 ft. lbs.).
    WARNING
    Verify brake hose is not twisted or kinked before tightening fitting bolt.

  14.  
  15. Install the wheel.
  16.  
  17. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.
  18.  
  19. Apply brakes several times to seat caliper pistons and brake shoes and obtain firm pedal.
  20.  
  21. Top off master cylinder fluid level.
  22.
