Removal & Installation

  1. Remove the right sound insulator.
  2.  
  3. Remove the instrument panel compartment.
  4.  
  5. Unsnap the rod from the plastic retainer on the actuator arm.
  6.  
  7. Remove the two screws from the actuator.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the Driver Side or Passenger Side actuator as required.
  12.  
  13. Inspect the air mix door for free travel.

To install:


NOTE
After replacing the actuator, recalibrate the actuator for proper travel. Cycle the ignition ON for 3 minutes to allow the programmer and the actuator to recalibrate for proper travel.

  1. Install the required actuator.
  2.  
  3. Connect the electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. Install the two screws to the actuator.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the screws to 12 inch lbs. (1.2 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Snap the rod to the plastic retainer on the actuator arm.
  10.  
  11. Install the instrument panel compartment..
  12.  
  13. Install the right sound insulator.
  14.  

  1. Remove the air distributor duct.
  2.  
  3. Lift the tab and release from the duct.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper actuator.
  6.  
  7. Using a flat blade tool, remove the metal clips.
  8.  
  9. Remove the screws that hold the air duct together.
  10.  
  11. Separate the air duct.
  12.  
  13. Remove the lower mode door.
  14.  
  15. Unscrew the lower actuator from the duct.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Install the lower actuator into the duct by turning to the right.
  2.  
  3. Install the lower mode door.
  4.  
  5. Put the case together.
  6.  
  7. Install the screws that hold the air duct together.
  8.  
  9. Install the metal clips onto the case.
  10.  
  11. Install the upper actuator by pushing it onto the duct.
  12.  
  13. Install the air distributor duct.
  14.  

  1. Remove the Instrument Panel carrier.
  2.  
  3. Remove the mode actuator retaining fasteners.
  4.  
  5. Remove the mode actuator.
  6.  
  7. Note the position of the door levers in relation to the cam. The mode door levers must be in the same position in order to reassemble the mode actuator to the HVAC case.

    Fig. The temperature door motor does not need to be removed in order to remove the mode actuator motor. The temperature door motor in the graphic is removed in order to show the fastener locations clearly.

To install:

  1. Lubricate the pivots on the mode door levers and the channels on the mode motor cam before reassembling.
  2.  
  3. Align the mode door levers with the cam slots, as noted on disassembly.
  4.  
  5. Install the mode actuator.
  6.  
  7. Install the mode actuator retaining fasteners and tighten to 12 inch lbs. (1.4 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the IP carrier.
  10.  
  11. Recalibrate the actuators using a Scan Tool.
  12.  

  1. Remove the right sound insulator.
  2.  
  3. Remove the instrument panel compartment.
  4.  
  5. Unsnap the rod from the plastic retainer on the actuator arm.
  6.  
  7. Remove the two screws from the actuator.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the Driver Side or Passenger Side actuator as required.
  12.  
  13. Inspect the air mix door for free travel.

To install:


NOTE

  5. Remove the mode actuator.
  6.

  1. Remove the left side sound insulator.

  3. Remove the driver air mix actuator retaining screws.
  4.  
  5. Remove the electrical connector from the driver air mix actuator.
  6.  
  7. Remove the driver air mix actuator.

To install:

  1. Install the driver air mix actuator.
  2.  
  3. Install the driver air mix retaining screws and tighten to 12 inch lbs. (1.2 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the electrical connector to the driver air mix actuator.
  6.  
  7. Install the left side sound insulator.
  8.  

  1. Remove the left side sound insulator.
  2.  
  3. Remove the driver air mix actuator retaining screws.
  4.  
  5. Remove the electrical connector from the driver air mix actuator.
  6.  
  7. Remove the driver air mix actuator.

To install:

  1. Install the driver air mix actuator.
  2.  
  3. Install the driver air mix retaining screws and tighten to 12 inch lbs. (1.2 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the electrical connector to the driver air mix actuator.

  7. Install the left side sound insulator.
  8.  

Passenger's Side



  1. Remove the Instrument Panel compartment.
  2.  
  3. Remove the passenger air mix actuator retaining screws.
  4.  
  5. Remove the electrical connector from the passenger air mix actuator.
  6.  
  7. Remove the passenger air mix actuator.

To install:

  1. Install the passenger air mix actuator.
  2.  
  3. Install the passenger air mix retaining screws and tighten to 12 inch lbs. (1.2 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the electrical connector to the passenger air mix actuator.
  6.  
  7. Install the Instrument Panel compartment.
  8.  

  1. Remove the Instrument Panel compartment.
  2.  
  3. Remove the passenger air mix actuator retaining screws.
  4.  
  5. Remove the electrical connector from the passenger air mix actuator.
  6.  
  7. Remove the passenger air mix actuator.

To install:

  1. Install the passenger air mix actuator.
  2.  
  3. Install the passenger air mix retaining screws and tighten to 12 inch lbs. (1.2 Nm).

  5. Install the electrical connector to the passenger air mix actuator.
  6.  
  7. Install the Instrument Panel compartment.
