CAUTION
Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition key must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF , unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.


WARNING
Before beginning this procedure, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section. Only a MVAC-trained, EPA-certified, automotive technician should service the A/C system or its components.

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the system.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the battery.
  4.  
  5. Remove the accessory drive belt.
  6.  
  7. Raise and support vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Remove the front air deflector.
  10.  
  11. Remove the right front tire
  12.  
  13. Remove the right fascia extension.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the left engine oil cooler line at the oil filter adapter (if equipped).
  16.  
  17. Remove the compressor splash shield and the retainers.
  18.  
  19. Remove the right wheelhouse extension.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the brake line retaining clip from frame.
  22.  
  23. Disconnect the suction hose fitting from the compressor.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect the discharge hose fitting from the compressor.
  26.  
  27. Disconnect the compressor electrical connector.
  28.  
  29. Remove the compressor mounting bolts.
  30.  
  31. Remove the A/C Compressor mounting stud.
  32.  
  33. Rotate the compressor, so that the compressor may exit through the wheelhouse extension opening.
  34.  
  35. Remove the compressor.

To install:

  1. Install the compressor through the wheelhouse extension.
  2.  
  3. Install mounting stud.
  4.  
  5. Install the remaining mounting fasteners.
  6.  
  7. Install the compressor mounting bolts and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the compressor electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Connect the discharge hose fitting to compressor and tighten to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Connect the suction hose fitting to the compressor and tighten to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Connect the left engine oil cooler line at the oil filter adapter (if equipped).
  16.  
  17. Connect the brake line retaining clip to the frame.
  18.  
  19. Install the compressor splash shield and the retainers.
  20.  
  21. Install right front tire.
  22.  
  23. Lower the vehicle.
  24.  
  25. Install the accessory belt.
  26.  
  27. Reconnect the battery.
  28.  
  29. Recharge the A/C system.
  30.  
  31. Leak test the A/C system.
  32.  
  33. Install the wheelhouse extension.
  34.  
  35. Install the front air deflector.

  11. Remove the right front tire
  12.  
  13. Remove the right fascia extension.

  15. Disconnect the left engine oil cooler line at the oil filter adapter (if equipped).
  16.  
  17. Remove the compressor splash shield and the retainers.
  18.  
  19. Remove the right wheelhouse extension.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the brake line retaining clip from frame.
  22.  
  23. Disconnect the suction hose fitting from the compressor.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect the discharge hose fitting from the compressor.
  26.  
  27. Disconnect the compressor electrical connector.
  28.  
  29. Remove the compressor mounting bolts.
  30.  
  31. Remove the A/C Compressor mounting stud.
  32.  
  33. Rotate the compressor, so that the compressor may exit through the wheelhouse extension opening.
  34.  
  35. Remove the compressor.

To install:

  1. Install the compressor through the wheelhouse extension.
  2.  
  3. Install mounting stud.
  4.  
  5. Install the remaining mounting fasteners.
  6.  
  7. Install the compressor mounting bolts and tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the compressor electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Connect the discharge hose fitting to compressor and tighten to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Connect the suction hose fitting to the compressor and tighten to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Connect the left engine oil cooler line at the oil filter adapter (if equipped).
  16.  
  17. Connect the brake line retaining clip to the frame.
  18.  
  19. Install the compressor splash shield and the retainers.
  20.  
  21. Install right front tire.
  22.  
  23. Lower the vehicle.
  24.  
  25. Install the accessory belt.
  26.  
  27. Reconnect the battery.
  28.  
  29. Recharge the A/C system.
  30.  
  31. Leak test the A/C system.
  32.  
  33. Install the wheelhouse extension.
  34.  
  35. Install the front air deflector.

  5. Remove the accessory drive belt.

  10.  
  11. Remove the right front tire.
  12.  
  13. Remove the right wheelhouse extension.
  14.  
  15. Remove the right side AIR pump.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the brake line retaining clip from the frame in order to allow movement of the brake lines during removal of the A/C compressor.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the suction hose fitting from the compressor.
    NOTE
    Seal the A/C compressor suction and discharge ports after the hoses are removed in order to keep contaminants from entering the A/C compressor, and to keep oil from draining out of the A/C compressor during removal. All A/C lines, hoses and components should always be sealed after component removal in order to avoid excessive moisture contamination to the A/C system during servicing.

  21. Disconnect the discharge hose fitting from the compressor.
  22.  
  23. Disconnect the compressor electrical connector.
  24.  
  25. Remove the lower alternator bolt.
  26.  
  27. Remove the A/C compressor mounting fasteners.
  28.  
  29. Remove the A/C Compressor mounting stud.
  30.  
  31. Rotate the A/C compressor, in order to allow the A/C compressor to exit through the wheelhouse extension opening.
  32.  
  33. Remove the A/C compressor.
  34.  

To install:

  1. Install the compressor through the wheelhouse extension opening.
  2.  
  3. Rotate the compressor in order to fit the compressor though the wheel house extension opening.
  4.  
  5. Install A/C compressor mounting stud.
  6.  
  7. Install the lower alternator bolt.

  9. Install the A/C compressor mounting fasteners (1, 2, 3, 4) and hand tighten the fasteners. Tighten the fasteners in the following sequence (refer to illustration):

    Tighten the A/C compressor mounting nut (1) to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
     
    Tighten the A/C compressor mounting bolts (2, 3) to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
     
    Tighten the last A/C compressor mounting bolt (4) to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).

  11. Connect the compressor electrical connector.
  12.  
  13. Connect the discharge hose fitting to the compressor and tighten to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Connect the suction hose fitting to the compressor and tighten to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Connect the brake lines and the retaining clips to the frame.
  18.  
  19. Install the accessory drive belt.
  20.  
  21. Install the right side AIR pump.
  22.  
  23. Install the wheelhouse extension.
  24.  
  25. Install the front air deflector.
  26.  
  27. Reinstall the right front tire.
  28.  
  29. Lower the vehicle.
  30.  
  31. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  32.  
  33. Recharge the A/C system.
  34.  
  35. Leak test the A/C system.

  25. Disconnect the discharge hose fitting from the compressor.
  26.  
  27. Disconnect the compressor electrical connector.
  28.  
  29. Remove the compressor mounting bolts.
  30.  
  31. Remove the A/C Compressor mounting stud.
  32.  
  33. Rotate the compressor, so that the compressor may exit through the wheelhouse extension opening.
  34.  
  35. Remove the compressor.

To install:

  1. Install the compressor through the wheelhouse extension.
  2.  
  3. Install mounting stud.
  4.

  33. Install the wheelhouse extension.

  35. Install the front air deflector.

  15. Remove the brake line retaining clips from the engine frame in order to allow the brake lines to move during removal of the A/C compressor.
    NOTE
    Seal the compressor suction and discharge ports after the hoses are removed in order to keep contaminants from entering the compressor and oil from draining out of the compressor during removal.

  17. Remove the discharge hose nut from the compressor.
  18.  
  19. Remove the discharge hose from the compressor.
  20.  
  21. Remove the suction hose nut from the compressor.
  22.  
  23. Remove the suction hose from the compressor.
  24.  
  25. Remove and discard the sealing washers from the discharge hose and the suction hose.
  26.  
  27. Disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor.
  28.  
  29. Remove the compressor mounting fasteners.
  30.  
  31. Remove the compressor mounting stud.
  32.  
  33. Rotate the compressor in order to allow the compressor to exit through the wheelhouse opening.
  34.  
  35. Remove the compressor from the vehicle.
  36.  

To install:

  1. Install the compressor through the wheelhouse opening.
  2.  
  3. Position the compressor on the mounting surface.
  4.  
  5. Install the compressor mounting stud through the appropriate compressor mounting boss.
  6.  
  7. Install the compressor mounting fasteners and hand tighten the fasteners.

  9. Tighten the fasteners in the following sequence:

    Tighten the compressor mounting stud (1) to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
     
    Tighten the compressor mounting stud nut (1) to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
     
    Tighten the upper rear compressor mounting bolt (3) to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
     
    Tighten the front compressor mounting bolt (2) to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
     
    Tighten the last lower rear compressor mounting bolt (4) to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
     

  10.  
  11. Connect the electrical connector to the compressor.
  12.  
  13. Install new sealing washers to the discharge hose and the suction hose.
  14.  
  15. Install the suction hose to the compressor.
  16.  
  17. Install the suction hose nut to the compressor and tighten to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).
  18.  
  19. Install the discharge hose to compressor.
  20.  
  21. Install the discharge hose nut to the compressor and tighten to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).
  22.  
  23. Install the brake line retaining clips to the frame.
  24.  
  25. Install the accessory drive belt.
  26.  
  27. Install the fascia extension.
  28.  
  29. Install the front air deflector.
  30.  
  31. Reinstall the right front tire.
  32.  
  33. Lower the vehicle.
  34.  
  35. Connect the negative battery cable.
  36.  
  37. Recharge the A/C system.
  38.  
  39. Test the affected A/C joints for leaks.
