Lower Control Arms

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel
     
    Road Sensing Suspension (RSS) sensor
     
    Lower ball joint from the steering knuckle
     

  4.  
  5. On the left control arm, support the transaxle and remove two transaxle mount nuts. Then raise the transaxle to access the control arm bolt.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Control arm nuts and bolts
     
    Control arm
     

  8.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Control arm
     
    Front and rear bolts, do not tighten yet
     
    Transaxle mount and lower the transaxle
     
    Lower ball joint. Torque nut to 84 inch lbs. (10 Nm) then an additional 120 degrees, reaching a minimum of 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).
     
    RSS position sensor
     
    Wheel. Torque the lug nuts to 100 ft. lbs. (140 Nm).
     

  2.  
  3. Lower vehicle and allow the vehicle to assume proper trim heights.
  4.  
  5. Torque the control arm front bolt to 93 ft. lbs. (126 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Torque the control arm rear bolt to 116 ft. lbs. (157 Nm).
  8.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel
     
    Stabilizer link bolt from the control arm
     
    Ball joint from the lower control arm
     
    Control arm mounting nuts and bolts
     
    Control arm
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Control arm
     
    Front and rear bolts, do not tighten yet
     
    Stabilizer link to control arm
     
    Ball joint stud in the lower control arm
     

  2.  
  3. Tighten the stabilizer shaft link assembly nut to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
  4.  
  5. On models with the FE7 system, tighten the ball joint stud nut to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm), then tighten the nut an additional 190 degrees.
  6.  
  7. On models with the FE1 & 3 system, tighten the ball joint stud nut to 88 inch lbs. (10 Nm), then tighten the nut an additional 150 degrees.

    Wheel
     

  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Bounce the vehicle and tighten the front lower control arm nut to 120 ft. lbs. (162 Nm) and the rear nut to 108 ft. lbs. (146 Nm) on models with the FE7 system or on the FE1 & 3 systems to 116 ft. lbs. (157 Nm) on the front nut and the rear to 116 ft. lbs. (157 Nm).
