Removal & Installation




CAUTION
Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition key must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF , unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Remove the intake air duct clamp from the air cleaner assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the intake air duct clamp from the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.
  8.  
  9. Remove the transaxle vent hose from the clip that is attached to the accelerator control cable bracket.
    WARNING
     Do not damage the MAF sensor screen. A damaged screen could restrict airflow and lead to a driveability concern.

  10.  
  11. Disconnect the MAF sensor electrical connector from the MAF sensor.
  12.  
  13. Remove the MAF sensor.
  14.  
  15. Remove the cruise control cable from the accelerator controls cable bracket.
  16.  
  17. Remove the accelerator cable from the accelerator controls cable bracket.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the transaxle shift cable clip from the accelerator controls cable bracket.
  20.  
  21. Remove the accelerator cable from throttle body lever.
  22.  
  23. Remove the cruise control cable from throttle body lever.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect the TP sensor connector from the TP sensor.
  26.  
  27. Disconnect the IAC valve electrical connector from the IAC valve.
  28.  
  29. Remove the throttle body coolant hoses at the throttle body.
  30.  
  31. Remove the 3 accelerator controls cable bracket bolts from the throttle body.
  32.  
  33. Remove the throttle body and gasket bolts from the throttle body.
  34.  

To install:


NOTE
The outlet of the air cleaner assembly and the MAF sensor inlet duct must line up when completely installed. An improperly installed air cleaner or a distorted/missing intake air duct assembly may cause a DTC to set. Ensure that the air cleaner assembly and the intake air duct is installed correctly and that there are no kinks or folds in the intake air duct or possible debris in the air cleaner assembly or the MAF sensor inlet screen that may distort the air flow.


NOTE
Do not reuse the old throttle body gasket.

  1. Position the new throttle body gasket on throttle body.
  2.  
  3. Reinstall the throttle body to throttle body spacer and finger tighten 2 lower bolts.
  4.  
  5. Reinstall the 3 accelerator controls cable bracket bolts to the throttle body and tighten to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Reinstall the throttle body coolant hoses at throttle body.
  8.  
  9. Connect the IAC valve electrical connector to the IAC valve.
  10.  
  11. Connect the TP sensor electrical connector to the TP sensor.
  12.  
  13. Reinstall the accelerator control cable at throttle body lever.
  14.  
  15. Reinstall the cruise control cable at throttle body lever.
  16.  
  17. Reinstall the transaxle shift cable into the clip on the accelerator controls cable bracket.
  18.  
  19. Reinstall the cruise control cable to accelerator controls cable bracket.
  20.  
  21. Reinstall the accelerator cable to accelerator controls cable bracket.
  22.  
  23. Connect the transaxle vent hose to the clip on the accelerator controls cable bracket.
  24.  
  25. Reinstall the MAF sensor to the throttle body.
  26.  
  27. Install the MAF sensor electrical connector to the MAF sensor.
  28.  
  29. Reinstall the air intake duct clamp to the MAF sensor.
  30.  
  31. Install the air intake duct clamp to the air cleaner assembly and tighten to 27 inch lbs. (3 Nm).
  32.  
  33. Connect the negative battery cable.
    NOTE
    When adding coolant, it is important that only Dex-Cool® (silicate-free) coolant be used. If coolant other than Dex-Cool® coolant is added to the system, premature engine, heater core, or radiator corrosion may result.

  35. Check and add coolant as necessary.

  1. Drain the cooling system.

  5. Remove the intake manifold sight shield.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor connector from the IAT sensor.
  8.  
  9. Loosen the air intake duct clamp at the air cleaner cover.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the MAF sensor electrical connector from the MAF sensor.
  12.  
  13. Remove the bolts from the MAF Sensor.
  14.  
  15. Remove the intake air duct and MAF sensor as an assembly.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the transaxle vent hose from the clip attached to the accelerator controls cable bracket.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the cruise control cable from the accelerator controls cable bracket.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the accelerator control cable from throttle body lever.
  22.  
  23. Disconnect the cruise control cable from throttle body lever.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect the Throttle Position (TP) sensor electrical connector from the TP sensor.
  26.  
  27. Disconnect the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve electrical connector from the IAC valve.
  28.  
  29. Disconnect the throttle body coolant hoses from the throttle body.
  30.  
  31. Remove the accelerator controls cable bracket from the throttle body.
  32.  
  33. Remove the throttle body and gasket from the throttle body spacer.
  34.  

To install:


NOTE
The outlet of the air cleaner assembly and the MAF sensor inlet duct must line up when completely installed. Misalignment may cause incorrect airflow readings resulting in MIL illumination or a driveability concern.


NOTE
Do not reuse the old throttle body gasket.

  1. Position the new throttle body gasket on throttle body.
  2.  
  3. Install the throttle body to throttle body spacer and finger tighten bolts.
  4.  
  5. Reinstall the accelerator controls cable bracket to throttle body spacer and tighten attaching bolts to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the throttle body coolant hoses at the throttle body.
  8.  
  9. Connect the IAC valve electrical connector to the IAC valve.
  10.  
  11. Connect the TP sensor electrical connector to the TP sensor.
  12.  
  13. Connect the accelerator controls cable at throttle body lever.
  14.  
  15. Connect the cruise control cable at throttle body lever.
  16.  
  17. Connect the cruise control cable to the accelerator controls cable bracket.
  18.  
  19. Connect the accelerator cable to the accelerator controls cable bracket.
  20.  
  21. Connect the transaxle vent hose to the clip at the accelerator controls cable bracket.
  22.  
  23. Reinstall the MAF sensor and intake air duct to the throttle body as an assembly and tighten bolts to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  24.  
  25. Connect the MAF sensor electrical connector to the MAF Sensor.
  26.  
  27. Tighten the air intake duct clamp at the air cleaner cover to 27 inch lbs. (3 Nm).
  28.  
  29. Connect the IAT sensor connector from the IAT sensor.
  30.  
  31. Connect the negative battery cable.
  32.  
  33. Check and add coolant as necessary.
  34.  
  35. Reinstall the intake manifold sight shield and tighten the nuts to 27 inch lbs. (3 Nm).
  36.  


NOTE
Do not damage the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor screen. A damaged screen could restrict airflow and lead to a driveability concern.

  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air cleaner intake duct.
  4.  
  5. Remove the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve fresh air tube.
  6.  
  7. Remove the cruise control cable from accelerator controls cable bracket.
  8.  
  9. Remove the accelerator cable from accelerator controls cable bracket.
  10.  
  11. Remove the cruise control cable from throttle body lever.
  12.  
  13. Remove the accelerator control cable from throttle body lever.
  14.  
  15. Remove the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve electrical connector from the IAC valve.
  16.  
  17. Remove the Throttle Position (TP) sensor electrical connector from the TP sensor.
  18.  
  19. Remove the fuel feed and return lines from the retainer on the accelerator controls cable bracket.
  20.  
  21. Remove the transaxle shift cable clip from the accelerator controls cable bracket.
  22.  
  23. Remove the throttle body from the water crossover.
  24.  
  25. Remove the accelerator controls cable bracket from the throttle body.
  26.  

To install:


WARNING
 Do not use a cleaner which contains methyl ethyl ketone. This extremely strong solvent may damage components and is not necessary for this type of cleaning. Use a carburetor cleaner in order to remove deposits.


NOTE
The outlet of the air cleaner assembly and the MAF sensor inlet duct must line up when completely installed. Misalignment may cause incorrect airflow readings resulting in MIL illumination or a driveability concern. An improperly installed inlet duct assembly or air cleaner assembly may cause misalignment.


NOTE
Do not reuse the old throttle body gasket.

  1. Install the accelerator cable bracket to the throttle body and tighten the bolts to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Position the new throttle body gasket on to the throttle body.
  4.  
  5. Install bolts from the throttle body to throttle body spacer and tighten to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the IAC valve electrical connector to the IAC valve.
  8.  
  9. Install the TP sensor electrical connector to the TP sensor.
  10.  
  11. Install the accelerator control cable at throttle body lever.
  12.  
  13. Install the cruise control cable at throttle body lever.
  14.  
  15. Install the accelerator cable to the accelerator controls cable bracket.
  16.  
  17. Install the cruise control cable to accelerator controls cable bracket.
  18.  
  19. Install the transaxle shift cable clip to the accelerator controls cable bracket.
  20.  
  21. Install the fuel feed and return lines from the retainer on to the accelerator controls cable bracket.
  22.  
  23. Install the air cleaner intake duct clamps to the air cleaner intake air duct and tighten to 27 inch lbs. (3 Nm).
  24.  
  25. Install the PCV valve fresh air tube.
  26.  
  27. Install the fuel injector sight shield.
  28.  
  29. Connect the negative battery cable.
  30.  
  31. Perform the TP Sensor learn procedure:

    Turn ignition switch to the ON position.
     
    Wait 1 minute.
     
    Turn ignition switch to the OFF position.
     
    Wait 15 seconds.
     

  32.  
  33. Perform the IAC Valve learn procedure:

    Start and idle the engine for 15 seconds.
     
    Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
     
    Wait 15 seconds
     

  34.  
  35. Restart the engine and check for proper idle operation.
  36.  


WARNING
 Do not damage the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor screen. A damaged screen could restrict airflow and lead to a driveability concern.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Remove the intake air duct clamp from the air cleaner assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the intake air duct clamp from the MAF sensor.
  8.  
  9. Remove the transaxle vent hose from the clip that is attached to the accelerator control cable bracket.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the MAF sensor electrical connector from the MAF sensor.
  12.  
  13. Remove the MAF sensor.
  14.  
  15. Remove the cruise control cable from the accelerator controls cable bracket.
  16.  
  17. Remove the accelerator cable from the accelerator controls cable bracket.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the transaxle shift cable clip from the accelerator controls cable bracket.
  20.  
  21. Remove the accelerator cable from throttle body lever.
  22.  
  23. Remove the cruise control cable from throttle body lever.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect the Throttle Position (TP) sensor connector from the TP sensor.
  26.  
  27. Disconnect the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve electrical connector from the IAC valve.
  28.  
  29. Remove the throttle body coolant hoses at the throttle body.
  30.  
  31. Remove the 3 accelerator controls cable bracket bolts from the throttle body.
  32.  
  33. Remove the throttle body and gasket bolts from the throttle body.
  34.  

To install:

  18.  
  19. Reinstall the cruise control cable to accelerator controls cable bracket.
  20.  
  21. Reinstall the accelerator cable to accelerator controls cable bracket.
  22.  
  23. Connect the transaxle vent hose to the clip on the accelerator controls cable bracket.
  24.  
  25. Reinstall the MAF sensor to the throttle body.
  26.  
  27. Install the MAF sensor electrical connector to the MAF sensor.
  28.  
  29. Reinstall the air intake duct clamp to the MAF sensor.
  30.  
  31. Install the air intake duct clamp to the air cleaner assembly and tighten to 27 inch lbs. (3 Nm).
  32.  
  33. Connect the negative battery cable.
    NOTE

  17. Remove the TP sensor electrical connector from the TP sensor.
  18.  
  19. Remove the fuel feed and return lines from the retainer on the accelerator controls cable bracket.
  20.  
  21. Remove the transaxle shift cable clip from the accelerator controls cable bracket.
  22.  
  23. Remove the throttle body from the water crossover.
  24.  
  25. Remove the accelerator controls cable bracket from the throttle body.
  26.  

To install:


WARNING
 Do not use a cleaner which contains methyl ethyl ketone. This extremely strong solvent may damage components and is not necessary for this type of cleaning. Use a carburetor cleaner in order to remove deposits.

  1. Install the accelerator cable bracket to the throttle body. Tighten
  2.  
  3. Tighten the bolts to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Position the new throttle body gasket on to the throttle body.
  6.  
  7. Install bolts from the throttle body to throttle body spacer and tighten to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the IAC valve electrical connector to the IAC valve.
  10.  
  11. Install the TP sensor electrical connector to the TP sensor.
  12.  
  13. Install the accelerator control cable at throttle body lever.
  14.  
  15. Install the cruise control cable at throttle body lever.
  16.  
  17. Install the accelerator cable to the accelerator controls cable bracket.
  18.  
  19. Install the cruise control cable to accelerator controls cable bracket.
  20.  
  21. Install the transaxle shift cable clip to the accelerator controls cable bracket.
  22.  
  23. Install the fuel feed and return lines from the retainer on to the accelerator controls cable bracket.
  24.  
  25. Install the air cleaner intake duct clamps to the air cleaner intake air duct and tighten to 27 inch lbs. (3 Nm).
  26.  
  27. Install the PCV valve fresh air tube.
  28.  
  29. Install the fuel injector sight shield.
  30.  
  31. Connect the negative battery cable.
  32.  
  33. Perform the TP Sensor learn procedure:

    Turn ignition switch to the ON position.
     
    Wait 1 minute.
     
    Turn ignition switch to the OFF position.
     
    Wait 15 seconds.
     

  34.  
  35. Perform the IAC Valve learn procedure:

    Start and idle the engine for 15 seconds.
     
    Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
     
    Wait 15 seconds
     

  36.  
  37. Restart the engine and check for proper idle operation.
