Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system into a clean container for reuse.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Instrument panel compartment
     
    Sound insulator from the right side
     
    Electrical connector and remove the heater/air conditioning programmer
     
    Driver-s air mix actuator from the bottom of the heater assembly
     
    Passenger-s air mix actuator from the bottom of the heater assembly
     
    Heater core cover-to-heater assembly screws and the cover
     
    Heater hoses from the heater core, located in the engine compartment
     
    Heater core-to-heater assembly screws

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Heater core
     
    Heater core-to-heater assembly screws, then, tighten to 18 inch lbs. (2 Nm)
     
    Heater hoses to the heater core
     
    Heater core cover and the cover-to-heater assembly screws, then, tighten to 18 inch lbs. (2 Nm)
     
    Passenger-s air mix actuator at the top of the heater assembly
     
    Driver-s air mix actuator at the bottom of the heater assembly
     
    Heater/air conditioning programmer and connect the electrical connector
     
    Sound insulator on the right side
     
    Instrument panel compartment
     

  2.  
  3. Refill the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6.  

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system into a clean container for reuse.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Instrument panel compartment
     
    Sound insulator from the right side
     
    Electrical connector and remove the heater/air conditioning programmer
     
    Driver-s air mix actuator from the bottom of the heater assembly
     
    Passenger-s air mix actuator from the bottom of the heater assembly
     
    Heater core cover-to-heater assembly screws and the cover
     
    Heater hoses from the heater core, located in the engine compartment
     
    Heater core-to-heater assembly screws

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Heater core
     
    Heater core-to-heater assembly screws, then, tighten to 18 inch lbs. (2 Nm)
     
    Heater hoses to the heater core
     
    Heater core cover and the cover-to-heater assembly screws, then, tighten to 18 inch lbs. (2 Nm)
     
    Passenger-s air mix actuator at the top of the heater assembly
     
    Driver-s air mix actuator at the bottom of the heater assembly
     
    Heater/air conditioning programmer and connect the electrical connector
     
    Sound insulator on the right side
     
    Instrument panel compartment
     

  2.  
  3. Refill the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6.  

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system into a clean container for reuse.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core.
  6.  
  7. Disable the SIR system.
  8.  
  9. Remove the instrument panel by removing or disconnecting the following:
    NOTE
    One fastener is located in the fuel/rear compartment release switch opening.



    Console
     
    Right insulator panel
     
    Instrument panel end caps from both sides
     
    Side windows air outlets
     
    Upper instrument panel trim pad
     
    Passenger-s side SIR module
     
    Instrument panel trim plate from the right side
     
    Instrument panel cluster
     
    Center instrument panel trim plate
     
    Radio
     
    Lap cooler duct
     
    Knee bolster.
     
    Steering column
     
    Headlight switch.
     
    Fuel door/rear compartment release switch.
     
    Instrument panel storage compartment
     
    10 instrument panel retainer-to-instrument panel carrier fasteners
     



    Instrument panel retainer from the carrier and feed the wiring through the openings, as necessary
     
    Inside air temperature sensor electrical connector
     
    Instrument panel
     
    Heater core-to-heater housing cover screws
     
    Heater core-to-heater housing screws
     
    Heater core retaining straps
     
    Heater core
     
    Heater core seals
     

  10.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Heater core seals
     
    Heater core.
     
    Heater core retaining straps
     
    Heater core-to-heater housing screws.
     
    Heater core-to-heater housing cover screws.
     

  2.  
  3. Install the instrument panel by installing or connecting the following:
    NOTE
    One fastener is located in the fuel/rear compartment release switch opening.



    Instrument panel
     
    Inside air temperature sensor electrical connector
     
    Instrument panel retainer to the carrier and feed the wiring through the openings, as necessary
     
    10 instrument panel retainer-to-instrument panel carrier fasteners
     



    Instrument panel storage compartment
     
    Fuel door/rear compartment release switch
     
    Headlight switch
     

  4.  
  5. Install or connect the following:

    Steering column
     
    Knee bolster
     
    Lap cooler duct
     
    Radio
     
    Center instrument panel trim plate
     
    Instrument panel cluster
     
    Install the instrument panel trim plate on the right side
     
    Passenger-s side SIR module
     
    Upper instrument panel trim pad
     
    Side windows air outlets
     
    Instrument panel end caps on both sides
     
    Right insulator panel
     
    Console
     

  6.  
  7. Enable the SIR system.
  8.  
  9. Connect the heater hoses to the heater core.
  10.  
  11. Refill the cooling system.
  12.  
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14.  
  15. Operate the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.
