Removal & Installation




CAUTION
Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition key must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.


CAUTION
If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in the Chassis Electrical Section.

  1. Disable the SIR system.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering column.
  4.  
  5. Remove the headlamp dimmer switch
  6.  
  7. Remove the headlamp dimmer switch and ignition switch retaining stud.
  8.  
  9. Remove the ignition switch.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the electrical connector to the ignition switch.

To install:

  1. Connect the electrical connector to the electrical switch.
  2.  
  3. Install the ignition switch to the steering column.
  4.  
  5. Install the headlamp dimmer switch and ignition switch retaining stud.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the stud to 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the headlamp dimmer switch.
  10.  
  11. Install the steering column.
  12.  
  13. Enable the SIR system
  14.  


CAUTION

  1. Apply the parking brake.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect negative battery cable. This will maintain the key code.
  4.  
  5. Disable the SIR system..
  6.  
  7. Remove the radio or the navigation display module.
  8.  
  9. Remove the AC/heater control head.
  10.  
  11. Remove the knee bolster..
  12.  
  13. Remove the steering column.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the ignition switch.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the park lock cable from the ignition switch.
  18.  
  19. Remove the ignition switch cylinder.
  20.  
  21. Remove 1 fastener from the access hole in the IP at the steering column opening.
  22.  
  23. Remove 2 fasteners from the radio opening hole. One fastener is at the top of the opening and the other fastener is near the opening edge. The head of the screw is facing forward. This is a blind fastener. It can not be seen when installed.
  24.  
  25. Rotate the switch in the IP.
  26.  
  27. Remove the ignition switch through the radio opening.
  28.  
  29. Remove the fasteners securing the ignition switch bracket to the switch.

  31. Remove the ignition switch bracket from the ignition switch.

To install:

  1. Install the ignition switch housing bracket to the switch.
  2.  
  3. Install the fasteners
  4.  
  5. Install the ignition switch into the radio opening.
  6.  
  7. Install the 2  fasteners to the radio opening hole; one fastener is at the top of the opening and the other fastener is near the opening edge.
  8.  
  9. Install 1  fastener to the access hole in IP at steering column opening.
  10.  
  11. Install the ignition switch cylinder to the ignition switch housing.
  12.  
  13. Install the park lock cable.
  14.  
  15. Connect the electrical connectors.
  16.  
  17. Install the steering column.
  18.  
  19. Install the knee bolster.
  20.  
  21. Install the AC/heater control head..
  22.  
  23. Install the radio or the navigation display module..
  24.  
  25. Enable the SIR system.
  26.  
  27. Connect the negative battery cable.
  28.  
  29. Release the parking brake.
  30.  


CAUTION

  1. Disable the SIR system.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering column.
  4.  
  5. Remove the headlamp dimmer switch
  6.  
  7. Remove the headlamp dimmer switch and ignition switch retaining stud.
  8.  
  9. Remove the ignition switch.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the electrical connector to the ignition switch.

To install:

  1. Connect the electrical connector to the electrical switch.
  2.  
  3. Install the ignition switch to the steering column.
  4.  
  5. Install the headlamp dimmer switch and ignition switch retaining stud.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the stud to 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the headlamp dimmer switch.
  10.  
  11. Install the steering column.
  12.  
  13. Enable the SIR system
  14.

  1. Disable the SIR system.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering column trim covers.
  4.  
  5. Remove the theft deterrent module from the ignition lock cylinder case assembly.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.

  9. Remove the key alarm connector (1) from the ignition lock cylinder case (4).
  10.  
  11. Remove the ignition switch retaining screws (3).
  12.  
  13. Remove the lower case ignition switch (2).
  14.  

To install:

  1. Install the lower case ignition switch to the steering column.
  2.  
  3. Install the ignition switch retaining screws and tighten to 13 inch lbs. (1.5 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the ignition switch electrical connectors.
  6.  
  7. Install the theft deterrent module to the ignition lock cylinder case.
  8.  
  9. Install the steering column trim covers. Enable the SIR system.
  10.
