Removal & Installation

  1. Drain the coolant.
  2.  
  3. Disable the SIR (airbag) system. Refer to the Chassis Electrical Section.
  4.  
  5. Remove the radiator support cover. The inflatable restraint front end discriminating sensor is located behind the hood latch.
  6.  
  7. Move the forwarding discriminating sensor out of the way.
    CAUTION
    Be careful when you handle a sensor. Do not strike or jolt a sensor. Before applying power to a sensor:



    Remove any dirt, grease, etc. from the mounting surface
     
    Position the sensor horizontally on the mounting surface.
     
    Point the arrow on the sensor toward the front of the vehicle.
     
    Tighten all of the sensor fasteners and sensor bracket fasteners to the specified torque value.
     
    Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

  9. Remove the air cleaner.
  10.  
  11. Remove the cooling fans.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the radiator inlet hose from the radiator.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the radiator outlet hose from the radiator.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the engine oil cooler lines from the right radiator end tank.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the transmission oil cooler lines from the left radiator end tank.
  20.  
  21. Remove the upper radiator support screws.
  22.  
  23. Remove the radiator from the vehicle. Lift the radiator up and out.
  24.  

To install:

  1. Install the radiator to the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the upper radiator support screws and tighten to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the transmission oil cooler lines to the radiator and tighten the line fittings to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the engine oil cooler lines to the radiator and tighten to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the radiator outlet hose to the radiator.
  10.  
  11. Connect the radiator inlet hose to the radiator.
  12.  
  13. Install the cooling fans.
  14.  
  15. Install the forward discriminating sensor.
  16.  
  17. Enable the SIR. Refer to the Chassis Electrical Section.
  18.  
  19. Refill the coolant and check for leaks.
  20.  
  21. Check for proper transmission oil level.
  22.  

  1. Drain the cooling system.
  2.  
  3. Remove the electric cooling fans.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the radiator inlet and outlet hoses from the radiator.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the engine oil cooler inlet pipe from the radiator, if equipped.
  8.  
  9. Remove the front air deflector
  10.  
  11. Remove the engine oil cooler outlet pipe from the radiator, if equipped:

  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14.  
  15. Remove the upper and lower transaxle oil cooler pipe fittings from the radiator.
  16.  
  17. Remove the upper radiator support screws.
  18.  
  19. Remove the radiator from the vehicle. Lift the radiator up and out.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Install the radiator to the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the upper radiator support screws and tighten to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the lower transaxle oil cooler pipe fitting to the radiator.
    NOTE
    Ensure the lower transaxle oil cooler pipe is positioned horizontally while tightening.

  6.  
  7. Tighten the transaxle oil cooler pipe fitting to 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe fitting to the radiator.
    NOTE
    Ensure the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe is positioned vertically while tightening.

  10.  
  11. Tighten the transaxle oil cooler pipe fitting to 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Raise and support the vehicle.
    NOTE
    Ensure that the engine oil cooler outlet pipe is routed under the A/C compressor hose.

  14.  
  15. Push the engine oil cooler outlet pipe, if equipped, fully into the engine oil cooler quick connect fitting, until a "click" is heard. Tug gently on the cooler pipe to ensure proper retention.
  16.  
  17. Install the front air deflector.
  18.  
  19. Lower the vehicle.
  20.  
  21. Install the engine oil cooler inlet pipe to the radiator, if equipped.
    NOTE
    Ensure the engine oil cooler pipe is positioned at a 10 degree angle while tightening.

  23. Tighten the engine oil cooler pipe fitting to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).

  25. Connect the radiator outlet hose to the radiator.
  26.  
  27. Connect the radiator inlet hose to the radiator.
  28.  
  29. Install the electric cooling fans.
  30.  
  31. Fill the cooling system and check for leaks.
  32.  
  33. Check for proper engine oil level.
  34.  
  35. Check for proper transmission oil level.
  36.  

  1. Remove the hood latch bracket.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine coolant.
  4.  
  5. Remove the headlamps.
  6.  
  7. Remove the air cleaner.
  8.  
  9. Remove the condenser mounting bolts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the radiator brackets.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the upper and lower engine oil cooler hose from the radiator.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the transmission cooler lines from the radiator.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the outlet radiator hose from the engine.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the upper inlet hose from the engine.
  20.  
  21. Tilt the radiator forward.
  22.  
  23. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the cooling fans.
  24.  
  25. Remove the cooling fan assembly from the radiator.
  26.  
  27. Disconnect the generator inlet cooler hose from the radiator.
  28.  
  29. Remove the outlet radiator hose from the radiator
  30.  
  31. Remove the inlet radiator hose from the radiator.
  32.  
  33. Remove the radiator.
  34.  

To install:

  1. Install the cooling fan assembly to the radiator.
  2.  
  3. Install the inlet radiator hose to the radiator.
  4.  
  5. Install the outlet radiator hose to the radiator.
  6.  
  7. Install the radiator to vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Connect the generator inlet cooler line to the radiator.
  10.  
  11. Connect the electrical connectors to the cooling fans.
  12.  
  13. Connect the lower radiator hose to the engine.
  14.  
  15. Install the upper radiator hose to the engine.
  16.  
  17. Install the air cleaner.
  18.  
  19. Connect the upper and lower engine oil cooler hose to the radiator.
  20.  
  21. Connect the transmission cooler lines to the radiator.
  22.  
  23. Install the radiator brackets.
  24.  
  25. Install the condenser mounting bolts and tighten to 10 ft. lbs. (13 Nm).
  26.  
  27. Install the hood latch bracket.
  28.  
  29. Install the headlamps..
  30.  
  31. Fill the cooling system and check for leaks.
  32.  
  33. Check for proper transmission oil level.
  34.  

  1. Remove the cooling fans.
  2.  
  3. Remove the generator cooler inlet hose from the radiator.
  4.  
  5. Remove the two condenser mounting bolts.
    NOTE
    Care should be taken when removing the condenser not to damage the lower attachment points of both the radiator and condenser.

  6.  
  7. Lift the condenser upward slightly in order to release the lower feet from the lower mounting features located at the front of the radiator.
  8.  
  9. Lift the radiator up and out the vehicle.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Position the radiator behind the condenser.
    NOTE
    Care should be taken when installing the condenser not to damage the lower attachment points of both the radiator and condenser.

  2.  
  3. Position the condenser, aligning the lower feet to the lower mounting features located at the front of the radiator.
    WARNING
     The bolts retaining the condenser to the radiator end tanks are a special length and should be the ONLY bolts used upon reinstallation. The use of longer bolts will damage the radiator end tanks.

  4.  
  5. Install the condenser mounting bolts and tighten to 115 inch lbs. (13 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the generator cooler inlet hose to the radiator.
  8.  
  9. Install the cooling fans.
  10.  
  11. Fill the cooling system and check for leaks.
  12.  
  13. Check for proper transmission oil level.
  14.  

  1. Drain the coolant.

  5. Remove the radiator support cover. The inflatable restraint front end discriminating sensor is located behind the hood latch.

  7. Move the forward discriminating sensor out of the way.

  17. Disconnect the engine oil cooler lines from the right radiator end tank.

  19. Disconnect the transmission oil cooler lines from the left radiator end tank.
  20.  
  21. Remove the upper radiator support screws.
  22.  
  23. Remove the radiator from the vehicle. Lift the radiator up and out.
  24.  

To install:

  1. Install the radiator to the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the upper radiator support screws and tighten to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the transmission oil cooler lines to the radiator and tighten the line fittings to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the engine oil cooler lines to the radiator and tighten to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the radiator outlet hose to the radiator.
  10.  
  11. Connect the radiator inlet hose to the radiator.
  12.  
  13. Install the cooling fans.
  14.  
  15. Install the forward discriminating sensor.
  16.  
  17. Enable the SIR. Refer to the Chassis Electrical Section.
  18.  
  19. Fill the coolant and check for leaks.
  20.  
  21. Check for proper transmission oil level.
  22.  

  1. Remove the cooling fans.
  2.  
  3. Remove the outlet radiator hose from the radiator.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the lower transaxle oil cooler line from the radiator.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the lower engine oil cooler line from the radiator.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 2 condenser mounting bolts.
    NOTE
    Care should be taken when removing the condenser not to damage the lower attachment points of both the radiator and condenser.

  10.  
  11. Lift the condenser upward slightly in order to release the lower feet from the lower mounting features located at the front of the radiator.
  12.  
  13. Lift the radiator up and out the vehicle.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Install the radiator insulators to the frame.
  2.  
  3. Position the radiator alignment dowels to align with the insulators.
    NOTE
    Care should be taken when installing the condenser not to damage the lower attachment points of both the radiator and condenser.

  4.  
  5. Position the condenser, aligning the lower feet to the lower mounting features located at the front of the radiator.
    WARNING
     The bolts retaining the condenser to the radiator end tanks are a special length and should be the ONLY bolts used upon reinstallation. The use of longer bolts will damage the radiator end tanks.

  7. Install the condenser mounting bolts and tighten to 115 inch lbs. (13 Nm).

  9. Connect the lower engine oil cooler line to the radiator and tighten the line to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
    NOTE
    Ensure the transaxle oil cooler line is positioned upwards while tightening.

  11. Connect the lower transaxle oil cooler line to the radiator and tighten to 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Connect the outlet radiator hose to the radiator.
  14.  
  15. Install the cooling fans.
  16.  
  17. Fill the cooling system and check for leaks.
  18.  
  19. Check for proper transmission oil level.
