Brake Master Cylinder

The master cylinder is in the left rear side of the engine compartment, on the firewall. To check the fluid level as recommended at each engine oil change interval:

  1. Clean off the area around the cap. Very small particles of dirt can cause serious problems in the braking system.
  3. Pry off the wire retaining clip to one side with a screwdriver. Remove the cover.
  5. The proper level in each of the two reservoirs is 1 / 4 in. from the edge. Add fluid as necessary.
  7. Replace the cover and snap the retaining wire back in place.

Use fluid marked DOT 3 or 4 only. Buy only as much fluid as you need and keep the cap closed tightly on the brake fluid can. The fluid attracts moisture and if water contaminated brake fluid is used in the hydraulic system it can cause real problems.
