1971-76 Models

The heater is located directly under the center of the dashboard.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Unplug the two electrical leads from the motor.
  4.  
  5. Remove the three retaining screws and remove the motor.
  6.  
  7. Install the motor and secure it with the mounting screws. Connect the wiring and battery cable.
  8.  

1977-83 Colt Coupe, Sedan, and Rear Wheel Drive Hatchback

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the instrument cluster (coupe and sedan). Remove the instrument cluster and the glove box (hatchback).
  2.  
  3. Remove the heater control bracket assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the motor assembly and disconnect the wiring.
  6.  
  7. On the coupe and sedan remove the motor in a horizontal position while holding the control bracket down.
  8.  
  9. On the Hatchback, remove the motor through the glove box opening, if necessary.
  10.  
  11. Install the blower motor and secure it. Connect the leads, controls and install the glove box and/or instrument cluster. Connect the battery on 1977-81 models.

Station Wagon

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the instrument cluster and the meter cluster.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the wiring to the motor.
  4.  
  5. Remove the motor assembly.
  6.  
  7. Install the blower motor and connect the wiring. Install the meter/instrument cluster and connect the battery cable.
  8.  

1979-84 Front Wheel Drive Colt Models
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Remove the center console and parcel tray, if equipped.
  2.  
  3. Remove the center vent duct and defroster duct. Remove the instrument panel trim. Remove the two heater unit top bolts and loosen the bottom attaching bolt.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the wiring to the motor.
  6.  
  7. Tilt the heater unit toward yourself, remove the three motor attaching bolts and remove the motor.
  8.  
  9. The blower fan may be removed from the shaft if necessary.
  10.  
  11. Install the fan to the motor shaft. Install the motor and connect the wiring. Install the heater mounting bolts, the ducts and the trim. Install the center console and parcel tray if removed. Connect the battery cable.

1985-89 Colt

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the glove box and parcel tray.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the changeover control wire and duct.
  4.  
  5. Remove the blower case.
  6.  
  7. Unbolt and remove the blower motor from the case.
  8.  
  9. The fan is removable from the motor shaft.
  10.  
  11. Install the fan to the blower motor shaft. Install the blower motor and case. Connect the control wire and duct. Install the glove box and parcel tray. Connect the battery cable.
  12.  

Vista
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the upper and lower glove boxes.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the wiring and duct from the blower assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the blower motor mounting bolts and lift out the motor. If the entire blower case is to be removed, the instrument panel will have to be removed first.
  6.  
  7. Install the blower motor. Connect the wiring and duct. Install the glove boxes and connect the battery cable.

Conquest

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the lower panel cover and the glove box.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the air changeover cable from the blower.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the duct from the blower.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the blower wiring.
  8.  
  9. Unbolt and remove the blower motor.
  10.  
  11. Install the blower motor. Connect the wiring and the duct. Connect the changeover cable. Install the glove box and lower panel cover.
  12.  
  13. Connect the battery cable.
  14.  

1981 and Later Challenger
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the lower instrument pad cover assembly from under the glove box.
  2.  
  3. Remove the passenger side console cover.
  4.  
  5. Remove the glove box to center support attaching screw.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the stops at either side of the glove box so that the glove box swings free.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the glove box light.
  10.  
  11. Remove the glove compartment assembly from the instrument pad.
  12.  
  13. Remove the ducts, heater fan switch connector and control cables.
  14.  
  15. Remove three attaching bolts and lift out the blower assembly.
  16.  
  17. Remove the wiring bracket and the motor connector. Remove the vent tube and three motor attaching screws. Lift out the motor and remove the fan from the motor assembly.
  18.  
  19. Install the blower motor. Connect the wiring and bracket. Connect the control cable, switch connector and ducts. Install the glove box, console cover and lower instrument pad cover. Connect the battery cable.
