Power Brake Booster

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



  1. Remove the master cylinder. It can be pulled far enough out of the way to allow booster removal without disconnecting the brake lines. Be careful not to damage the lines.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the booster.
  4.  
  5. Under the instrument panel, pry the retainer clip center tang over the end of the brake pedal pin and pull the retainer clip from the pin. Discard the clip.
  6.  
  7. Remove the four booster attaching nuts.
  8.  
  9. Remove the booster from the vehicle.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Position the booster on the firewall.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the nuts to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Carefully position the master cylinder on the booster.
  6.  
  7. Install the mounting nuts and tighten them to 18 ft. lbs. (26 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the vacuum hose to the booster.
  10.  
  11. Coat the bearing surface of the pedal pin with chassis lube.
  12.  
  13. Connect the pushrod to the pedal pin and install a new clip.
  14.  
  15. Check the stoplight operation.
  16.  


WARNING
Do not attempt to disassemble the power brake unit, since the booster is serviced as a complete assembly only.
