Operating mechanisms of the body should be inspected, cleaned and lubricated as necessary. This will provide maximum protection against rust and wear.
Prior to lubricating, wipe the parts clean of dirt and old lubricant. When Lubriplate® is specified, use a smooth, white body lubricant of NLGI Grade 1. When Door-Ease is specified, use a stainless, wax-type lubricant.
HOOD LATCH AND RELEASE
Apply Lubriplate®, or the equivalent to all pivot and sliding contact areas. Work the lubricant into the lock mechanism. Apply a thin film of the same lubricant to the safety catch.
These parts should be lubricated with engine oil at the points shown in the illustration.
DOOR CHECK STRAPS
Apply Lubriplate® or the equivalent whenever the car is serviced.
Pay particular attention to the lock cylinders when the temperature is around the freezing mark. When necessary, apply a thin film of Lubriplate®, or the equivalent directly to the key and insert the key in the lock. Work the lock several times and wipe the key dry.
Another alternative is to use a commercial spray that is sprayed directly into the lock to prevent freezing.
LIFTGATE PROP PIVOTS AND LATCH
Lubricate at the points illustrated with Lubriplate® or the equivalent.
DOOR LATCH, LOCK CONTROL, LINKAGE AND WINDOW REGULATOR
To lubricate these parts it is necessary to remove the trim panel. Lubricate all pivot and sliding contact areas with Lubriplate® or the equivalent.
PARKING BRAKE MECHANISM
Lubricate all parking brake sliding and pivot contact areas with Lubriplate® or the equivalent.
DOOR LATCH AND STRIKER PLATE
Lubricate the striker plate contact area and the ratchet pivot areas with a stainless, wax-type lubricant such as Door Ease®.
