Dodge Omni/Horizon/Rampage 1978-1989 Repair Guide

On models equipped with an electric cooling fan, disconnect the negative battery cable, or fan motor wiring harness connector before replacing any radiator/heater hose. The fan may come on, under certain circumstances, even though the ignition is OFF.

Hoses can be removed or installed with pliers or a screwdriver. Some cars use spring type clamps while others use screw type clamps. If spring type clamps are used, it is recommended to remove these with hose clamp pliers to avoid pinching your fingers.

  1. Drain the radiator.

When draining the coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted by ethylene glycol antifreeze, and are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old.

  1. Remove the hose clamps.

  1. Pull the hose off the fittings on the radiator and engine.

To install:

  1. Install a new hose. A small amount of soapy water on the inside of the hose end will ease installation.

Radiator hoses should be routed with no kinks and routed as the original. Use of molded hoses is not recommended.

  1. Refill the cooling system and check the level.
