Rear Driveshaft and U-Joints

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



  1. Matchmark the driveshaft flange to the front transfer and rear differential flanges.
  2.  
  3. Remove the driveshaft protective hoop.
  4.  
  5. Temporarily support the driveshaft with technician's wire or have an assistant hold it.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 12-point bolts from the rear differential flange.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 2 center support bearing mounting bolts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the 12-point bolts from the front transfer flange.
  12.  
  13. Remove the driveshaft.

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure, observing the following torque specifications:

    12-point flange bolts: 24 ft. lbs. (32 Nm)
     
    Center support bearing bolts: 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm)
     
    Driveshaft protective hoop bolts: 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)

U-JOINT REPLACEMENT



The manufacturer states that should a failure occur with any component of the driveshaft assembly, the assembly must be replaced as a unit.

DRIVESHAFT BALANCING



The manufacturer states that should a failure occur with any component of the driveshaft assembly, the assembly must be replaced as a unit. If the driveshaft must be balanced, it must be removed and taken to a vendor specializing in driveshaft balancing.
