Hydraulic Control Unit

The HCU consists of a valve body, pump motor, low pressure accumulators, inlet valves, outlet valves and noise attenuators.

Removal & Installation



  1. Disconnect battery negative cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the brake lines from HCU (Hydraulic Control Unit).
  4.  
  5. Push the harness connector locks to release the locks, then remove the connectors from the CAB (Controller Anti-Lock Brake).
  6.  
  7. Remove the nuts which attach the assembly to the mounting bracket.
  8.  
  9. Remove the assembly from the vehicle.

To install:


NOTE
If the CAB is being replaced with a new CAB is must be reprogrammed with the use of a DRB III.

  1. Install the Anti-lock assembly into the bracket and tighten bolts to 14-15 Nm (10-12 ft. lbs.).
  2.  
  3. Connect the CAB harnesses.
  4.  
  5. Connect the brake lines to the HCU. Tighten brake line fittings to 19 Nm (170 inch lbs.).
  6.  
  7. Connect battery.
  8.  
  9. Bleed brake system.
  10.  

  1. Disconnect the battery cables from the battery.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the brake lines to the HCU.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the electrical harness connector.
  6.  
  7. Remove HCU assembly mounting nuts.
  8.  
  9. Raise and support the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Remove the left front tire.
    NOTE
    Careful not to lose the mounting pins when remove the HCU from the vehicle.

  12.  
  13. Lift the HCU assembly off the mounting bracket.
  14.  
  15. Remove the HCU assembly through the left wheel well.

To install:


NOTE
If the ABM is being replaced with a new ABM it must be reprogrammed with the use of a scan tool.

  1. Reinstall the HCU assembly through the left wheel well.
  2.  
  3. Install HCU assembly on the mounting bracket and Tighten the nuts to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the brake lines to the HCU and tighten to 19 Nm (170 inch lbs.).
  6.  
  7. Install the brake lines to the HCU and tighten to 19 Nm (170 inch lbs.).
  8.  
  9. Install the electrical harness connector to the HCU/ABM assembly.
  10.  
  11. Install the left front tire.
  12.  
  13. Install the battery cables to the battery.
  14.  
  15. Bleed ABS brake system.
