Wheel Speed Sensors

Removal & Installation



  1. Raise the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the brake line mounting nut, if fitted, and remove the brake line from the sensor stud.
  4.  
  5. Remove the mounting stud from the sensor and shield.
  6.  
  7. Remove the sensor and shield from the differential housing.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the wire and remove the sensor.

To install:

  1. Connect harness to sensor. Be sure the seal is securely in place between the sensor and wiring connector.
  2.  
  3. Install O-ring on sensor if removed.
  4.  
  5. Install sensor on differential; housing, sensor shield, mounting stud. Tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the brake line on the sensor stud and install the nut.
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10.  

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front rotor.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wheel speed sensor mounting bolt from the hub.
  6.  
  7. Remove the wheel speed sensor from the hub.
  8.  
  9. Remove the wiring from the clips and disconnect the electrical connector.

To install:

  1. Install the wiring to the clips and reconnect the electrical connector.
  2.  
  3. Install the wheel speed sensor to the hub.
  4.  
  5. Install the wheel speed sensor mounting bolt to the hub. Tighten the bolt to 21 Nm (190 inch lbs.).
  6.  
  7. Install the front rotor and brake caliper assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove support and lower the vehicle.
  10.  

With Traction Control
  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. Remove the mounting bolt from the sensor.
  6.  
  7. Remove the sensor from the brake caliper adapter.

To install:

  1. Insert the wheel speed sensor in the brake caliper adapter.
  2.  
  3. Install the sensor mounting bolt and tighten to 24 Nm (200 inch lbs.).
  4.  
  5. Reconnect the electrical wiring connector to the sensor.
  6.  
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8.  

Without Traction Control
  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the sensor wire harness.
  4.  
  5. Remove the brake line mounting nut and remove the brake line from the sensor stud.
  6.  
  7. Remove the mounting stud from the sensor and shield.
  8.  
  9. Remove the sensor and shield from the differential housing.

To install:

  1. Install the O-ring on the sensor (if removed).
  2.  
  3. Insert the sensor in the differential housing.
  4.  
  5. Install the sensor shield.
  6.  
  7. Install the sensor mounting stud and tighten to 24 Nm (200 inch lbs.).
  8.  
  9. Install the brake line on the sensor stud and install the nut.
  10.  
  11. Connect the harness to the sensor.
    NOTE
    Be sure the seal is securely in place between the sensor and the wiring connector.

  12.  
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14.
