Removal & Installation



3.7L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, please familiarize yourself with safety procedures.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Engine from the vehicle
     
    Oil pan
     
    Oil pump pickup tube
     
    Oil pan gasket
     

  4.  
  5. Installation is the reverse of removal. Torque the bolts, in sequence, to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).

4.7L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, please familiarize yourself with safety procedures.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Structural cover
     
    Exhaust Y-pipe
     
    Starter motor
     
    Transmission oil cooler lines
     
    Oil pan
     
    Oil pump pickup tube
     
    Oil pan gasket

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pan gasket
     
    Oil pump pickup tube, using a new O-ring. Tighten the tube bolts to 20 ft. lbs. (28 Nm); tighten the O-ring end bolt first.
     
    Oil pan. Tighten the bolts, in sequence, to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
     
    Transmission oil cooler lines
     
    Starter motor
     
    Exhaust Y-pipe
     
    Structural cover
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Fill the crankcase to the proper level with engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  6.  

5.7L Engines
2-Wheel Drive
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, please familiarize yourself with safety procedures.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Loosen both left and right side engine mount through bolts. Do not remove bolts.
  6.  
  7. Install an engine support fixture tool. Do not raise engine at this time.
  8.  
  9. Remove the structural dust cover.
  10.  
  11. Remove fan and fan shroud.
  12.  
  13. Drain engine oil.
  14.  
  15. Remove the front crossmember
  16.  
  17. Raise engine to provide clearance to remove oil pan.
    NOTE
    Do not pry on oil pan or oil pan gasket. Gasket is integral to engine windage tray and does not come out with oil pan.


    NOTE
    If more clearance is needed to remove oil pan, the transmission mount can be removed, and the transmission raised to gain clearance.


    NOTE
    The double ended oil pan studs must be installed in the same location that they were removed from.

  19. Remove the oil pan mounting bolts using the sequence provided.
  20.  
  21. Unbolt oil pump pickup tube and remove tube.
    NOTE
    When the oil pan is removed, a new integral windage tray and gasket assembly must be installed. The old gasket cannot be reused.

  23. Discard the integral windage tray and gasket and replace.
  24.  

To install:

  1. Clean the oil pan gasket mating surface of the block and oil pan.
    NOTE
    Mopar® Engine RTV must be applied to the 4 T-joints (1, 2), (area where front cover, rear retainer, block, and oil pan gasket meet). The bead of RTV should cover the bottom of the gasket. This area is approximately 4.5 mm x 25 mm in each of the 4 T-joint locations.

  3. Apply Mopar® Engine RTV at the 4 T- joints.
    NOTE
    When the oil pan is removed, a new integral windage tray and gasket assembly must be installed. The old gasket cannot be reused.

  5. Install a new integral windage tray and gasket.
  6.  
  7. Reinstall the oil pump pickup tube with new O-ring. Tighten tube to pump fasteners to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
    NOTE
    The double ended oil pan studs must be installed in the same location that they were removed from.

  8.  
  9. Position the oil pan and install the mounting bolts and studs. Tighten the mounting bolts to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.).
  10.  
  11. Install the structural cover.
  12.  
  13. Lower the engine into mounts.
  14.  
  15. Install both the left and right side engine mount through bolts. Tighten the nuts to 50 ft. lbs. (68 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Remove the lifting fixture.
  18.  
  19. Install the front crossmember. Torque to 75 ft. lbs. (102 Nm).
  20.  
  21. Install the fan shroud and fan.
  22.  
  23. Fill engine oil.
  24.  
  25. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  26.  
  27. Start engine and check for leaks.

4-Wheel Drive
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, please familiarize yourself with safety procedures.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Loosen both left and right side engine mount through bolts. Do not remove bolts.
  6.  
  7. Install an engine support fixture tool. Do not raise engine at this time.
  8.  
  9. Remove the structural dust cover.
  10.  
  11. Remove fan and fan shroud.
  12.  
  13. Drain engine oil.
  14.  
  15. Remove the front crossmember.
  16.  
  17. Raise engine to provide clearance to remove oil pan.
  18.  
  19. Unbolt and lower the steering rack, without disconnecting the lines.
    NOTE
    The front axle must be lowered to remove the oil pan.

  20.  
  21. Remove the front driveshaft at the axle. Mark for reassembly.
  22.  
  23. Support the front axle.
  24.  
  25. Remove the right and left axle to mount, bolts.
  26.  
  27. Lower axle.
  28.  
  29. Remove the oil pan mounting bolts and oil pan.
  30.  
  31. Unbolt oil pump pickup tube and remove tube.
    NOTE
    When the oil pan is removed, a new integral windage tray and gasket assembly must be installed. The old gasket cannot be reused.

  33. Discard the integral windage tray and gasket and replace.
  34.

  1. Clean the oil pan gasket mating surface of the block and oil pan.
    NOTE
    Mopar® Engine RTV must be applied to the 4 T-joints (1, 2), (area where front cover, rear retainer, block, and oil pan gasket meet). The bead of RTV should cover the bottom of the gasket. This area is approximately 4.5 mm x 25 mm in each of the 4 T-joint locations.

  6.  
  7. Reinstall the oil pump pickup tube with new O-ring. Tighten tube to pump fasteners to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).

  11. Install the structural cover.

  17. Reinstall the front axle.
  18.  
  19. Install the steering rack.
  20.  
  21. Install the rear transmission mount.
  22.  
  23. Remove lifting fixture.
  24.  
  25. Install the front crossmember. Torque to 75 ft. lbs. (102 Nm).
  26.  
  27. Install the fan shroud and fan.
  28.  
  29. Fill engine oil.
  30.  
  31. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  32.  
  33. Start engine and check for leaks.
  34.  

5.9L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, please familiarize yourself with safety procedures.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Oil filter
     
    Starter motor
     
    Cooler lines
     
    Oil level sensor connector
     
    Heated Oxygen (HO 2 S) sensor connector
     
    Exhaust Y-pipe
     
    Oil pan
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pan, using a new gasket. Tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).
     
    Exhaust Y-pipe
     
    Heated Oxygen (HO 2 S) sensor connector
     
    Oil level sensor connector
     
    Cooler lines
     
    Starter motor
     
    Oil filter
     

  2.  
  3. Fill the crankcase.
  4.  
  5. Start the engine and check for leaks.
