Stabilizer Bar (Sway Bar) & Links

Removal & Installation



  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the upper link nut, retainer and grommet from each link.
  4.  
  5. Remove the stabilizer bar retainer bolts and remove the retainers and stabilizer bar from the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the bushings from the stabilizer bar.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install the bushings on the stabilizer bar.
  2.  
  3. Install the stabilizer bar on the frame and install the retainers and the bolts.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the bolts to 60 Nm (45 ft. lbs.).
    NOTE
    Ensure the bar is center with equal spacing on both sides.

  6.  
  7. Install the upper link grommet, retainer and nut and tighten to 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.).
  8.  
  9. Remove support and lower vehicle.
  10.  


NOTE
To service the stabilizer bar the vehicle should be on a drive on hoist. The vehicle suspension must be at curb height for stabilizer bar installation. Remove the stabilizer link upper nut and remove the retainers and grommets. Remove the stabilizer bar retainer bolts and nuts also remove the retainers from the frame sway bar and remove the bar. If necessary, remove the bushings from the stabilizer bar."

To install: If removed, install the bushings on the stabilizer bar. Position the stabilizer bar on the frame crossmember brackets and install the bracket and bolts finger-tight.


NOTE
Check the alignment of the bar to ensure there is no interference with the either frame rail or chassis component. Spacing should be equal on both sides. Install the stabilizer bar to the stabilizer link and install the grommets and retainers and tighten to 45 ft. lbs. (61 Nm). Tighten the brackets to the frame and tighten to 45 ft. lbs. (61 Nm). Install the nuts to the stabilizer link and tighten to 169 Nm (125 ft. lbs.)

4-Wheel Drive

NOTE
To service the stabilizer bar the vehicle must be on a drive on hoist. The vehicle suspension must be at curb height for stabilizer bar installation.

  1. Remove the stabilizer bar retainer bolts from the lower suspension arms and remove the retainers.
  2.  
  3. Remove the stabilizer bar retainer nuts, bolts and retainers from the frame crossmember and remove the bar.
  4.  
  5. If necessary, remove the bushings from the stabilizer bar.

To install:


NOTE
To service the stabilizer bar the vehicle must be on a drive on hoist. The vehicle suspension must be at curb height for stabilizer bar installation.

  1. If removed, install the bushings on the stabilizer bar.
  2.  
  3. Position the stabilizer bar on the frame crossmember brackets and install the retainers and nuts and bolts finger-tight.
    NOTE

  5. Install the stabilizer bar to the lower suspension arm.
  6.  
  7. Install the retainers and bolts to the lower suspension arm and tighten to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.).
  8.  
  9. Tighten the frame retainer nuts to 190 Nm (140 ft. lbs.).
  10.  
  11. Tighten the frame retainer bolts to 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.).

Stabilizer Links



Removal & Installation
2wd Models

NOTE
4-wheel drive vehicles do not utilize stabilizer links; the ends of the stabilizer bar fasten directly to the front lower control arm.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the upper link nut, retainer and grommet from each link.
  4.  
  5. Remove the lower link nut from the lower suspension arm on each side.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Install the link lower retainer and grommet on the links.
  2.  
  3. Install the links into the stabilizer bar and lower suspension arm on each side.
  4.  
  5. Install the lower link mounting nut and tighten to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
    NOTE
    Ensure both link end caps are facing straight forward.

  6.  
  7. Install the upper link grommet, retainer and nut and tighten to 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.).
  8.  
  9. Remove support and lower vehicle.
  10.

  5. Remove the upper nut, retainers and grommets from the stabilizer bar.
  6.  
  7. Remove the stabilizer link from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Install the stabilizer link to the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the retainers, grommets and upper nut to the stabilizer bar and Tighten to 45 ft. lbs. (61 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the lower nut and tighten to 169 Nm (125 ft. lbs.).
  6.  
  7. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
  8.
