Fuel Pressure Regulator

Removal & Installation



These engines are equipped with a fuel filter/pressure regulator located on the top of the tank-mounted fuel pump. This unit is not a regularly maintained unit and is serviced only when a DTC indicates a fault. Removal of the pump is not required to service the filter/regulator.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, please familiarize yourself with safety procedures.
  2.  
  3. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Fuel tank
     

  6.  
  7. Pull the filter/regulator out of the rubber grommet. Cut the hose clamp and remove the fuel line.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install the filter/regulator with a new clamp and push it into the rubber grommet.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Fuel tank
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  4.  
  5. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  6.  

These vehicles incorporate the use of a fuel pump module which comprises:



An internal fuel filter
 
A separate fuel pick-up, or inlet filter
 
A fuel pressure regulator
 
An electric fuel pump
 
A fuel gauge sending unit (fuel level sensor)
 

If the filter(s), regulator, pump or sending unit requires service, the fuel pump module must be replaced.
