Power Door Locks



Diagnosis & Testing
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions.
  2.  
  3. Remove the switch.
  4.  
  5. Inspect terminals for poor connections, loose wires, bent, broken, or corroded pins, and then verify that the connector is securely fastened.
  6.  
  7. Check for battery voltage at the lead wire of connection to the switch.
    1. If battery voltage is absent, check the fuse.
    2.  
    3. If battery voltage is present, check through the switch for power delivery.
    4.  
    5. Replace switch if faulty.
    6.

  9. Check for battery voltage at the motor.
    1. If battery voltage is absent, check wiring.
    2.  
    3. If battery voltage is present, the motor may be faulty.
    4.

Removal & Installation
Door Lock Motor
Front Door
E-Class (210)
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions.
  2.  
  3. Remove door liner on front door.

  5. Remove exterior door handle on front door.

  7. Pull foil off of inner door panel.
  8.  
  9. Remove hinge strap.
  10.  
  11. Remove crank operated window on front door.
  12.  
  13. Insert window into window guide rail and push up.
  14.  
  15. Unclip holder on inner door panel, unhook control cable on door lock and remove.
  16.  
  17. Open retainer and remove lock rod.
  18.  
  19. Press IRCL line off of door lock IRCL element.
  20.  
  21. Drill out pop rivets after knocking back rivet pin with punch.
  22.  
  23. Remove guide rail through installation opening.
  24.  
  25. Unscrew screws.
  26.  
  27. Unclip lock cover on door lock and inner door panel and remove.
  28.  
  29. Unscrew screws.
  30.  
  31. Remove door lock through installation opening.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  
  3. Tighten screw on door lock to 6 ft. lbs. (8 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install handle and underlay in bearing bracket and guide at the same time into the operating lever of the door lock
  6.  
  7. Insert guide.
  8.  
  9. Vehicles with IFZ function indicator lamp, insert connector in connector holder and ensure correct position relative to guide
  10.  
  11. Screw in 4 mm Allen screw and tighten to 2 ft. lbs. (3 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Adjust clearance between handle and control lever with eccentric adjustment accessible via opening on the end of the door using a cross-head screwdriver.
  14.  
  15. Check clearance by pulling on handle until resistance is felt. Clearance should be 0.039-0.117 in. (1-3 mm).
  16.  
  17. Carry out operational check.

Rear Door
E-Class (210)
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions.
  2.  
  3. Remove door liner on rear door.

  5. Remove exterior door handle on rear door.

  7. Remove mount.
  8.  
  9. Pull foil off of inner door panel.
  10.  
  11. Close crank window.
  12.  
  13. Remove door interior actuating mechanism on rear door.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect CL line from door lock.
  16.  
  17. Unscrew screw for lock cover The lock cover can only be removed together with the door lock.
  18.  
  19. Unscrew screws on door lock.
  20.  
  21. Remove door lock through assembly opening.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  2.  
  3. When installing tighten screws on end side first.
  4.  
  5. Carry out operational check.

Door Lock Switch
E-Class (210)

NOTE
The center console switch group can only be replaced as a unit. Individual switches cannot be serviced.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions.
  2.  
  3. Unclip shift lever covering.
  4.  
  5. Unclip cover toward top/bottom.
  6.  
  7. Pull off connector.
  8.  
  9. Unclip center console switch group.
