Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Lexus ES300 1992-1994

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front wheels.

  7. Disconnect and plug the brake line at the caliper.
  8.  
  9. Hold the sliding pin with a wrench and remove the mounting bolts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bolts caliper assembly.

To install:

  1. Remove a small amount of fluid from the master cylinder to prevent overflow when the caliper piston is compressed.
  2.  
  3. Press the caliper piston in slightly with a hammer handle or equivalent, to ease installation.
  4.  
  5. On the rear, install the main pin and tighten it to 19 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the caliper. Hold the sliding pin and torque the mounting bolts to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the brake line with two new gaskets and tighten the union to 21 ft. lbs. (29 Nm).
    NOTE
    Insert the brake line securely into the lock hole in the caliper.

  11. Bleed the brake system.
  12.  
  13. Install the wheel.
  14.  
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16.  
  17. Depress the brake pedal several times until full braking power is restored.
  18.  
  19. Check and if necessary fill the master cylinder reservoir.
  20.  

Specific to:

Lexus ES300 1995-1999

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable to the battery.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front wheels.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the brake hose from the caliper by removing the union bolt and two gaskets. Plug the end of the hose to prevent loss of fluid.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bolts that attach the caliper to the torque plate.
  12.  
  13. Lift the bottom of the caliper up and remove the caliper assembly.

To install:

  1. Grease the caliper slides and bolts with lithium grease or equivalent. Install the caliper and secure with the bolts. Torque the bolts to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Reconnect the brake hose to the caliper, using two new washers. Make sure the flexible hose lock is securely in the lock hole of the caliper. Torque the union bolt to 21 ft. lbs. (29 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Fill the brake system to the proper level and bleed the brake system.
  6.  
  7. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
  8.  
  9. Top off the brake fluid level in the master cylinder. Check for leaks and proper brake operation.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable to the battery.
